I was just replaying DA2, and it occurred to me that it could be cool if our aggro drawing ability is a "taunt" ability again, that characters should actually taunt the enemy when we use it. In DA2 it was a whistle, which was kind of bizarre. This is obviously a minor feature, but it seems like a cool touch to me. Presumably the word budget was already allocated so this would not be possible for DA:I, but it would be nice for future DA games.

A lot of the standard battle cries are taunts. Moreso in DA: O I think, but still some in DA ][.

That's actually what got me thinking about this - I heard a battle line by Hawke which fit the bill.
Hehe like taunt them with insults??
"Your father was a hamster, your mother smelt of elderberries!!!" *enemies rush you*
Basically, except... maybe telling them to go find themselves in the apls?

I immediately think Fable when it comes to your request.

'HEY YOU! WITH THE FACE! YEAH I HATE YOU!'
It strikes me that'd it be really fun to be able to choose set of actual taunts for the taunt ability, and each set has a theme. My chosen set of taunts, of course, would be shouty and slightly incompetent.

Anders used to say something that might incense chantry folk when you deselected him in awakening. "ANDRASTE'S KNICKER-WEASALS!"

I seriously doubt this will count as a spoiler to most people, but just in case,
I would love more numerous and more varied battle cries, including taunts! DA:O had some good ones, but I feel like something was screwy in how often they were used. Like, I heard Leliana shout, "I'll try to be merciful!" every f*cking time I entered combat, but I almost never heard the stuff like Alistair's "Beasties a-comin'..." or other situation-specific comments ![]()

Really? I was quite happy that it wasn't some kind of animation which takes 5 secs and takes all the control about your char away from you... and makes him literally an immovable target.

The taunt skill having a a bunch of lines tied to it would be great I think. It would be taking advantage of having a voiced protagonist. However, with the word budget and all, I think it would be one of very last things on the list-of-things-we'd-like-in-the-game.

I don't see how that would have to happen. It's not as if talking somehow makes it impossible for someone to move, so there'd be no justification to freeze a character in place.

Maybe a bit, but i don't see the point why my inquisitor should have to flip the middlefinger.

Same reason the game has swing animations instead of just depleting enemy health. If you're going to have a buff called "Taunt" why not spend spend a second having your character actually taunt the enemy

I could really get into Actual Taunts
... could be funny, but used to often could get annoying ....... like the notorious "Can I get you a Ladder?" ......... guh
Though not a taunt, still after hearing it so often it really started to ware thin.

well, im probably gonna have to say no... mainly because the taunts I would want are more along the lines of "**** you" and "eat **** and die," you know things that belong more in south park and less in Da...
