Ok people, get your tinfoil hats ready. My current theory for the big bad and the breach is this: The fade and the black city specifically is a prison for the big bad. We get some clues from both Sandal and Eleni Zinovia about what's coming. I believe that the big bad is the source for the darkspawn taint and that is why the so called golden city was already black and corrupted by the time the magisters arrived. one theory is that the old gods are not imprisioned in the earth, but the jailors of the prison. In this scenario each time a old god is corrupted the prison becomes that much weaker. if this is true, the breach is like a prison door being left ajar. its enough for the demons to escape but not the big bad just yet. As to the identity of the big bad: Personally, I like the idea of it being the maker and he is actually evil and the old gods were actually the good guys(not a big fan of the chantry). I have heard the theory of it being Fen'Harel ,a Old God like being or some super demon like the forbiddon ones. Now this is all pretty shaky, but I believe in my prison theory. I really have no idea on the big bads identity, but I have my hopes. We will see who the big bad really is when we get to play the game.

No, on the Maker bit. A religious character isn't going to show itself (or himself)

I do believe however, that the taint does originate from the Black City. It's some kind of magic that corrupts and empowers the affected people.

Cool theory, I've been curious about the nature of the black city, the magisters attempt to enter it and the old gods.

I hope we get more info on these subjects in DA;I...

Cool theory apart from it being the maker. I don't think they should ever reveal the maker and the whole evil god thing has been done to death.

I kind of agree that it shouldn't be the maker and I doubt they will ever be less mysterious about the maker. I just want to see the chantry world view shattered.

if they never approve or dissaprove the maker as being real or not then I don't want any kind of god being proved real or false. Some of these people need to drop the "no maker please" crap. I don't want this "fan harel" god of the elves to be "real" unless the maker is also real and shown.

But aren't the old gods imprisoned underground? The dark spawn constantly keep digging to find them.

I believe their "mind" is imprisoned in the black city. All living things dream in the fade afterall.

haha im actually having a conversation with someone about this outside the forums. Its an interesting theory. what if the city was self corrupted? But I never thought about the old gods being jailers, and the maker theory im open to it..i doubt it will happen but im open to it. i can see there being something wanting out of the black city.

I always imagined that the prophecy referring to the prison being breached is a reference to Corypheus' escape...

But the Fade really being a prison actually makes a lot of sense as well, as the Breach and Veil Tears are simply one massive escape attempt as the prisoners break down or vault over the fence, dig underneath it or use the hang-gliders they'd constructed in the attic. According to Chantry lore, we also know that the Veil did not always exist and was only created later, which fits the idea that the Veil is a giant stone wall with barbed wire designed to keep the prisoners in.
