In DAO there was a lovely key that said 'swap weapon sets' and that feature disappeared in DA2 so we would have to go through the tedious task of switching from a bow to dual weapons through the inventory screen. I personally ended up just sticking one or the other about 90% of the time. I would like to see this feature return.

There will be no dual weapons except daggers, so dont worry.

I enjoyed that too. It allowed me to carry a weapon just for darkspawn or dragons, but still have my "normal" gear on, or be able to carry a bow for when range is needed but I could use my melee weapons when the enemy closed in or what not.

Well.. to be true, i never used this weapon-switch thing in Origins. Feels like something that belongs to a 3rd-Person-Action-RPG and not into a party.

It was just annoying as hell wehn Leliana switched from her bow to dual-weapons, when all the skills i chose for her needed a bow... so i ended up giving her two bows. Problem solved.

And it always made more sense to specialize a character in one sklill tree, than spreading  the skillpoints for things, which i rarely use.

So switching weapons was one of the few things i did not miss in DA2.

If you ever play Origins again, in the tactics screen, try changing the behaviour from default to ranged and enjoy the results.

I believe I did complain about this when DAII was released. Playing with 3 mages, with all the random elemental inmunities, sometimes different ones in the same battle, meant that I had to constantly go back to the inventory. It was really annoying. Add to that the generic names for the staves for increased fun.

I hope they don't forget to include it this time.

DAO's weapon sets were a pale imitation of how NWN let us map any combination of equipment to the hotbar.  So, if you wanted to use a sword and shield, you could put that in one slot, and then you could put that same sword by itself (or with a second weapon) in another slot.  And then a completely different weapon in a third slot.

And there were 48 total slots

I actually preferred the Origins version. In NWN2 the weapons set that you didn't have equiped would stay in the inventory (in my case a mess of gems and trap kits). More than once when I tried changing weapons I'd find out that I had sold them or given them to another companion by accident. In Origins they get out of the way and clear inventory space.

I sorely missed that lovely and adorable button.

I always swapped to ranged weapons when enemies ran away so I never had to persue them ( which usually meant not falling into an ambush ).

It will be nice if they give us more than two slots though.

oh i did experiment a lot with those ai-mechanics, but... ah well none seemed to be optimal.

And about 2nd: That was the reason why i never had more than two mages in my party... i don'T understand, why the mage himself couldn't decide  such minor things like which kind of damage does the staff - for example.

I would love this option to make a comeback, and preferable with an option to do this for armout/outfit too... I don't always want to wear my heavy full plate armour if i am just running around kirkwall for example to sell/buy stuff or have quest conversations so i would always be switching our armour and weapons.

although with the armour restrictions removed this might not be an issue in Inquisition though a switch outfit button would still be nice to switch from battle to "social"outfit.  ^_^

I liked it for the dragons, really the only time I used it though and only for my PC

My love of realism says that stuff you're not using should still take up space.

In other cases I might agree, but inventory slots are not a realistic representation of anything.

If anything your love for realism should prevent you from being a walking armoury and needing so many quickslots for weapons.

I liked the NWN set up, where you could add weapon sets to the Quick Bar. It felt like you were prioritizing your pack - "Ok, there's a good chance I'll need this, so I'll hook it here for easy access." That's also the feeling I got with the "quick switch" button in DAO, just in a more minimal way.

Honestly, the biggest thing that bugs me (and it really doesn't bug me a whole lot), is that everything is carried on your back. Swords, shields, staves, daggers, EVERYTHING is on their back.

Anyway, back on point - I, too, would like to see a quick-switch mechanic return for DA:I.

Yeah, a quick way of switching weapons would be nice

Swords seem like they might be on hips this time
