How to deal with collectors?

Collectors are by far the toughest opponents on gold in my opinion.  Now if you have a nice group like any enemy you will hammer them.  The things that make them the toughest:  Objectives are a horror show, bosses move in very fast, spawn almost immediately within range and have Scion boss units that hang back and crush you.  The seeker swarms are a massive impediment to powers.  Wave 8, enough said.

The only unit for them that is a cake walk are the regular troopers.

As for the tangent discussion of weapons and casters.  I've always said 'what is the point?'  If you run around as a true caster with an absurd cool down.  You are crushing things totally because of your claymore or whatever not because of the powers you occasionally cast.

Several weak spots, big juicy heads, all enemies have elaborate animations like casting bees, webs, getting possessed etc making them extremely vulnerable to weapons and powers.

1. Collectors make you realize how critical hard cover is and punish you for exploiting soft cover as crabs and scions don't give a damn about them.

2. Seeker swarms are easy to escape - just dodge them as they are about to blow up.

3. Plagues on the other hand, are near impossible to dodge consistently unless you are a jet pack turian or collector or character with teleport dodge. Just shoot them or use power combos on them. They are the only annoying thing, albeit minor abt collectors for me.

4. You can toy around with a scion when you catch one alone. Go into it's CQC range, force it to do the melee swing, move away and hit hard. Repeat and fire. Possessed scions are not as easy but this still works if done correctly. Obviously this fails vs. groups of scions or scion + other enemies.

5. Abomb explosions (even regular ones) stagger troopers, captains and other abombs . Use this to your advantage.

6. Scion's tracking of perpendicular movement is worse compared to ravagers and primes. Dodging/escaping scions is 'relatively' easier.

Re Casters w/ Guns

It is because this is Mass Effect and not Heroes of Narnia Spellcraft.  The "casters" have always had weapon damage, and all of them had the top tier weapon skill in ME1 (Marksman).

Non Drell kit that is also thought to be extremely cooldown dependant.

Turns out he died from Annihilation field, but I know a Volus who can probably hook you up.

Anyone who plays a caster class and gets weapons kills/medals should be thrown out the airlock.  Especially for the Fury.  They should assign negative scores for every weapons kill.  Zero gun kills, folks.

If one does not have the skill to play the Fury without treating her like a Demolisher, then you're not a good Fury player.

<_<

That´s not really true. I get weapon medals all the time when playing casters. It comes simply with the fact that I cast powers AND shoot. I would literally have to force myself to do nothing while having powers on cooldown and stop shooting altogether to not get weapon medals. There are characters that don´t have it really hard to achieve biotic/tech kills medal like DA or Fury or MQE etc., but when I play AA and stasis+HS or Justicar or FQE...

There is really nothing wrong with weapon medal. Plus weapons can score kills easier then most powers.

Cmon mega, don´t be such dogmatist, your airlock will get broken :P

I have to agree here. The fun of multiplayer is the multitude of combinations of characters and weapons, and how they meld with your play style. It's pretty boring if everyone plays the same 3 or 4 classes, the same 5 or 6 weapons, and the same playstyles.

Collectors are fun to play against, but they are indeed one of the tougher opponents on Gold. Being on the move constantly has been mentioned before, and it is probably more important against them than vs. other factions, especially if you like to play it up-close and aggressively.

While they pose varied threats, they are very vulnerable to flanking moves, a bit like Reapers in that regard. So making a quick dash around the block to get at them from the other side works really well.

One of my favorite characters (Batarian Slasher Adept) works exceedingly well vs. collectors. A while ago we had a thread here where someone pointed me towards a video from xcalizorz on youtube, showcasing slasher vs. collectors on gold. I don´t have the link here atm, but is is a very entertaining and instructive one, well worth watching.

Another one of the nonsensical BSN anti-fun rules. To hell with it.

Sorry, I'll behave.  I guess my point is that gold is pretty trivial for experienced players, so weapons kills shouldn't be the emphasis.

Yeah, it's hard for classes like the Justicar to focus solely on biotics (without a partner anyway).  But I'm not backing down on the Fury though.

So what I should just stand around while my power cools down?
Not to mention the fact that shooting stuff in the head is fun, just as fun as setting up a BE

How much shots does it require to kill a brute? Pretty much shure one needs to revisit ammobox several times.

The gun is there to soften up the targets for the inevitable BE.  Damage vs. kills.  But really, I'm just being antagonistic today.  Sorry. xD

I don't know too many.  I have run a few times on the GTS recently and you are at the ammo box half the match.

Scimitar is awesome, just not in terms of damage. Use it as an ammo application weapon with disruptor and a spammable power like concussive shot, throw, etc and it's pretty decent even viable on Platinum without too much headache. You can chain tech bursts back to back to back very quickly.

Hmm...yeah I guess I have a tendency to bunker down and get overrun quickly with collectors. Those seeker swarms make me crazy...I feel crippled when I can't reave that captain charging me.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I do love power kits, but I've become very fond of the salarian infiltrator with piranha, too. I kind of prefer him to the geth thanks to energy drain.

He will be your gateway to GI. Similiar playstyle, a little "tankier" with ED, same movement/dodge. I find the need for ED very situational, and often times I will go an entire match without using it. Once you get a little more time under your belt, give the GI a shot with the same set up.
