Hmm I thought it wasn't coming out for another couple of days?? Is the PC customizable (appearance, gender...)?

Edit: Damn it's hard to find detailed information about this game. Like more details about the so called "companions", for instance... instead of just a tiny blurb and meh screenshots.

I'd really love to get my hands on a cool new rpg before Inquisition comes out!

From what I've been able to find is that it's customizable... to some degree? All I can see in the video is Beefcake McSteroids as the PC, which isn't very interesting to me.

Yeah I've just watched a couple trailers... Beefcake Dudebro and CleavageArmor mage do heroic battle against skeletons...

Sigh. :P Bioware has spoiled me.

I thought it was out on Friday.  I was waiting for the reviews first to see if it was something I should pick up.  OP I would be interested in your further thoughts as you progress through the game.

You can play a male or female. Appearance is supposed to be customizable as well, though I don't know how much choice you have. I read it's limited, but at least you can pick your gender. Armor does have lot of customization options.

This guy is doing a let's play, so you can get a better look at the game:

Unfortunately he seems to have skipped the character creation section. Combat appears to be rather difficult (enemies have a lot of health) and might get repetitive after a while. I'm still willing to face that if the RPG aspect is good. Main story about defeating Ice Lords and their horde of demons doesn't sound that interesting, but your supposed inner struggle with the demon that has possessed you still has me intrigued.

Any particular reason why there's three threads simultaneously up on this game...?

That's the launch-date for PC, it appears. It may be out for consoles already, I presume...?

DA:I's going along pretty much the same standard speshul-snowflaek route - which had me rolling my eyes, somewhat -, so I do not see a particular problem with that in and of itself. I am likewise more interested in the possession-vs-humanity component. War Logs had a similar dichotomy, of which I still need to do the good-guy route one of these days.

Character-creation is not too detailed, 'tis true. The ones who did the LPs up so far weren't kind enough to at least switch to fémme to showcase that if nothing else.

If the comments of the LP linked are to be believed, a few retailers sent out copies already.

It's also available already for PS3/4 on PSN.

Available for purchase and play or only the former?

You're correct, it hit digital stores yesterday:

Hi PlayStation.Blog readers, this is Walid, producer from Spiders. Bound by Flame launches this week on PS4 and PS3. It arrives on PlayStation Store first on May 6th, and then hits retail shelves on May 9th.

Here's hoping it's good.

How much of a variance in faces are we talking about? Is the male char model stuck with steroids and beards as their favourite past time?

How disappointing. I'll pick this up when it gets cheaper.

Edit: I found a video that shows the first thirty mins, also character creation.

I'm having a good time with this game. I like the combat, I'm about 7 hours in and have been leveling, and crafting. I'm just about to start doing side quests, from the swamp village.
It bothered me that there was hardly any customization in features for your character, but that quickly dissipated, once I passed the prologue. Cool game, so far.

The female voice sounds vaguely familiar -- I think she voiced that one female warrior from The Companions in Skyrim.

The one that puts on a srs Norse/Scot accent?

Fenris's VA, Mr Emery, makes an appearance as well.

Put a few hours into it, and I can't say it's disappointed me thus far. Character-creation was covered, but heck, I like my merc-lady. Not too much interaction with the demon as of yet, but I like where that is going.

Combat is also a-OK, can't understand at all what numerous reviews are blathering on about on that end. Controls are a lot more optimized for keyboard-and-mouse than, say, Dark Souls's, going by my own personal experience with that game - which is limited, I'll readily admit; yet it's the one key issue that put me off soldiering through that for the time being.

Even on lowest difficulty I am playing at - I am getting the impression some who aired their frustration at the combat don't - fights are fairly challenging, although it is nothing that can't be solved with kiting when it comes down to it, and once Pyromancy is unlocked, that's a huge help too.

Choice of gender for PC in this game is a first for Spiders. That type of content may follow in the future, who knows.

Otherwise, I find the interaction between my merc-miss and Edwen quite...suggestive as is.

Overall, I'd get the game, depending on what it is that you like about RPGs like TW2 or ME1-3. This is a game that has a more fixed than unfixed protagonist, and it does sort of have paraphrases (sometimes the line isn't identical, other times it is, and there are times you have longer exchanges based on picking 1 line).

I got the game and, like others have said, aside from customization it's fun. There are issues with the combat system - there's a dedicated stagger button for the 2H style, for example, so your hits don't feel like they have much weight to them and you have to kind of rely on that button a bit - and it's a bit clunky overall, but IMO on the lowest or second lowest difficulty it's manageable and kind of fun (at least at higher levels). This is not the sort of game I'd play for the combat and it can easily feel cheap in parts (though I've never died yet). I think the game heavily punishes jack of all trades builds so I'd blitz one whole tree based on what works best for you. I think the 2H style is superior, but that's YMMV.

The reason I'd get the game, though, is for the story/TW2 style RP elements. Don't get me wrong - there's very little reactivity in this game. But it's a kind of interest fantasy world, and having a demon in your head turns out to be a really interesting take (even though the demon doesn't feature that much, at least until Act 2, which I just started).

I really like the crafting, and the armours look cool. There at least seems to be some choice in game, and you can make fun of the boob window armour a number of times which is pretty unique in an RPG with boob window armour.

My hubs reserved a copy of this, and is picking it up on his way home from work. I was under the impression that there was a set pc (not customizable), and had already resigned myself to it. If that's not the case, yay!

And a Gideon Emery appearance is pretty awesome. Admittedly, I skimmed past some of the posts in this thread, because I didn't want to read any potential spoilers, and to formulate my own opinions about gameplay and the like.

I look forward to checking this out. Especially since there seems to be a bit of an rpg drought for the next few months.

Divinity: Original Sin comes out late next month. It's co-op focused, might wanna check it out since you have a spouse.

Daveliam posted about this a few weeks back. Apparently it was the publisher not the developers mandate. The devs wanted to include that apparently? But that aside, multiple negative reviews have stopped just short of calling the game sexist for some of the more awful ways it portrays women (apaprently).

Wow, that's even worse....

Also, ugh at publishers.

So far I haven't come across either romances or more sexism than one usual finds in video games usually (it's really disheartening we're still at a point where I can say that). One exchange stands out as pretty bad, but it's no worse than TW2.

Explains certain dialogue of Edwen and fémme-Vulcan I noted...

The apocalyptic setting reminds me a bit of the Migration Period, to be had, which would be somewhat more obvious if the main big bad weren't the undead (a game that does without any fantasy-fare enemy in such a scenario and has the conflict between peoples at its core...there's a thought). Most of the game-world's nations are fallen and there isn't much of any semblance of social order left to speak of even at the beginning of the game.

You are referring to the one backwater peasant in act 2's "The evil eye"-quest there, correct? That was harsh, yes, but hardly surprising given the overall setting. Outside of the PC's merc-band and their employers, what's left pretty much is the bottom of the barrel of peoples that weren't thrown at or fell prey to the undead already, this one included.
