I didn't think someone could be this Bad at DA:O... boy oh boy was I wrong. This guy doesn't pause, doesn't use healing items & he doesn't switch characters... gets killed by skeleton's then complains that the game is "Broken."

It's his own fault in the end, but it doesn't mean RPG's are dumbed down. It simply means the guy has no idea how strategy or tactics work.

I don't think dumb is the right term actually. I think some people have less patience and want basically everything handed to them.
And there are some people who consider rpgs to be like a virtual novel.
The problem is bridging the gap and creating a game that can appeal to all fans.

lol ... Good thing he did not play DA:O at release PC .. It's was much difficult than this. The console version was already a dumbed down version of the PC release. Than BioWare decreased the overall difficulty even more to cater to people that complained about the normal difficulty being too hard.
This man though. Some people should just stick to Corridor shooter.

Wait a minute. The same approaches that beat DA2 also beat DAO. Is he deliberately trying to play DAO badly?
I guess DA:O had more obscenely broken abilities and a generally garbage rogue class, so you might be doing it wrong depending on how you curbstomped DA2? But I'm talking nightmare here - on the regular difficulties the games are basically the same, unless he's obliterating himself out with FF?

Looking at the video I'm even more confused. Standing in the middle of the skeleton ambush in the Brecilian Forest ruins got his party exterminated, but doing that in DA2 would get your party exterminated even faster.
He's just sort of randomly walking around and healing? Maybe in DA2 he tried to kite and doge in real time, which you just can do in DA:O?

To be fair, DSP could not even do a unboxing video properly.

Maybe tying in more advanced player controlled elements of RPG's(like modifying team member AI's) to the difficulty setting, may be the best place to start. If dev's are trying to cast the largest net.

Games are dumbed down to accommodate players that don't normally play or are new to that particular genre. Its not anything more complicated than that. Its all about da money.

Divinity: Original Sin, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Age of Decadence, Dead State, Serpent in the Staglands and Torment: Tides of Numenera

And yea, with all the kickstarter incline going on, I had almost forgotten what the grim face of mainstream RPGs had looked like.

I watched the video and the guy just sucks. I think his every other word was F*** and he never used any techniques like choke points, combos or anything. I had fun with DAO. You can play it anyway you want. That was the fun part. From Stealth rogue poison traps to mage combos. This guy didn't even know the bare minimum.

It seems to me that the answer would be having difficulty levels and largely disregarding the people who are terrible but think they should be able to beat the game on the hardest difficulty.
I would also advise largely ignoring the people who get butthurt over a game having an easy difficulty that is actually easy.
Then the people who want everything to be super difficult can play on hard and the people who want to mindlessly hack and slack their way through armies of bad guys can play on easy.

Woah, don't blame this on console players. I played DA:O on a PS3 and had no issues with the controls.
Same here. I didn't have any trouble with the control setup.
