I'm tempted to look into starting a gaming community. Not that I know much about doing that..

This group has been so awesome and I thought it'd be cool to be able to create some form of community site where challenges and what not could be posted for this game and for games in the future.. instead of doing it through bioware.

Any thoughts or previous experiences with this type of thing?

I guess there are many pros and cons to doing something like this and I know there are many similar communities out there already.

I've had too much time to think during my retirement apparently :P

This actually seems like a good idea, and an interesting experiment. It definitely requires a huge amount of determination and patience, but I think you have that! :)

This group is pretty much my first such community experience, and I really enjoy being around since the beginnings.

Believe it or not, BSN is the only gaming community I have visited. Then again, ME series is one of the two game series I have ever played (other being Batman: Arkham series).

I'd like such a community/group but as kaxas said, it'd require a lot of effort to keep it up. I'd rather have 2-3 people be the moderators and take care of it instead of one person job.

Actually, this is also my first real gaming community experience as well. With bioware, I've discovered how you can make great online friends and thought why not extend that to a community not necessarily just restricted to a single game.

I agree, having a few people spearhead the operation is probably a good idea, especially with things like accepting members and moderation. It also makes it more enjoyable and less of a chore. Well, I will do some more research into it. I have set up websites before so that part of it is not too difficult (I actually enjoy that :) ) but I'm sure there is a lot to it that I'm not even aware of...

Glad to hear there is some interest though. Who knows if it would work, but I'd definitely be into giving it a try. It seems like the magic mushrooms have created a similar group and are proud members. Could be a neat way of continuing the community and extending it into other avenues!

Not opposed to the idea, but as others have mentioned, it would be a fuckload of work.

If you can convince Knocking to be active in a position of responsibility, you can have my firstborn.

This isn't my first gaming community but it certainly was one of the better ones I have experienced. As previously mentioned, it would require a lot of patience and work to keep it up. I'm not opposed to the idea. It would be nice to have though.

Interesting idea. Might make figuring out what all the challenges are a little easier too. (Seriously, I've been linked to like 5 different threads for one challenge and I'm still confused.)

^ Yeah, it can be a little over whelming, I know. There are a lot of challenges in here and a ton of submissions. It doesn't help that I keep hitting post limits and have to split things up. :s

I think, while I would love to create a gaming community, it's just so much work for right now. Maybe one day I'll have a surge of motivation and just do it... :) But for now, I'll stick to the challenge group and should prob focus on RL a lil too! :P
