Im confused by the rant for straight male romances. Still trying to clear my brain from waking up a minute ago.

I wrote paragraphs on the absurdity but decided to back off instead of argue main stream. Its unfair to others, not straight men. Sorry. Im sure Isabella made Lucky and Cats happy though.

It's not absurd for straight male gamers to be unhappy with their options.  Everyone has preferences  and, perhaps, the choices don't seem interesting for them.  That's understandable, so to post that they would like different options is fine.

 

It's completely absurd to answer this thread, which discusses how completely marginalized gay players (particularly gay males) have been in the past games, with the claim that it's actually straight male gamers who are being treated unfairly because you don't like your options.  Again, straight male gamers have had nearly 30 female LI's available to them over the course of 10 games.  If you can't find a single one that you like, then maybe Bioware games just aren't for you.  To claim that Bioware has been unfair to straight male gamers is kind of ludicrous.

Wasn't the Juhani romance supposed to have more content originally but Lucas Arts freaked out & had alot of it removed?

I do not know if that was the reason or not. Lucasarts has bisexual people before that in their lore though so if so, seems weird.

This is part of the wall of text I was producing but backed off from. We had too many in past games to say we didnt have good ones. When others haven't had theirs. Ill admit, Isabella isnt my cup of tea being so promiscuous. Merrill would be more my type. I say we as in straight males there.

But I agree with you. I like it to be equal for everyone myself.

I am a lesbian and I agree Vivienne is totally gorgeous and one of my top hopes for a romance though I'm not sure I'll be that lucky.   Mind you I think Cassandra is beautiful and so is Scribbles so if I can have any of those three as romances I'll be very happy

On an individual basis, I guess anyone can be more attractive to anyone. The only really conventionally attractive male is Cullen, imo. Dorian may also be comparable to the female companions, or I think he's attractive, at least. His facial hair is unconventional, but he seems acceptable otherwise.

Yeah I think 'attractive' is subjective and despite various types of media conveying what they chose as "conventionally attractive" people are different and have different likes and dislikes anyway so while our perceptions of attractive may be somewhat shaped by society and media that doesn't mean we all agree or find attractive those images that are thrown at us. 

 

For me I find I like Cassandra's sharper features better than I like the more generic, softer features women are usually portrayed with. Again Vivienne has strong features, high cheekbones and I think she's gorgeous though others will disagree with me and that's fine because we all like different things.

 

There does seem to be more diversity in the appearance range of the male companions than in the female ones though and I'd actually like to see more variety in the ladies too. It seems to me that the ladies do still fit closer to the "conventionally attractive" image in most mainstream media than the male companions though there seems to be a broader definition for "conventionally attractive" males anyway. 

 

Of course all my rambling really means is that you can't predict who everyone will want to romance because we'll want different things and characters so as long as it's fair in terms of options for all players regardless of gender and sexuality and all the romances have equal depth and content that's the main thing, I think.

Vivienne is GORGEOUS.  I can't believe anyone wouldn't find her absolutely 100% attractive.  I'm even willing to run a f/f playthrough if she's a lesbian option.

I understand exactly why the female characters are being lambasted for not being conventionally attractive enough, but to be honest I prefer not directing my mind to it because it just reflects really poorly on our culture and just how narrow our standards for female beauty are in reality.

I think the three women in our party are different from past parties in some respects. But I think its all in good ways? Like, they were not designed for their potential sex appeal, they were designed for their character, same as the men. So I do think they lost some of their typical 'attractiveness', but purely in a video game/being sold as the 'pixelated hotties to oogle' sense. All are fully clothed for one, unlike Isabela and Merrill. None are running around shirtless like Jack or being billed as a perfect woman , face-modeled off a popular actress like Miranda etc. Cass is powerful, full of conviction, and super passionate (also, her accent is like, super important). Her look/design is entirely to convey that. If you don't find that attractive, you're probably less likely to find her attractive. Viv is the epitome of luxury, style and power.( rereading this,I realize my description of her could be lifted from a Mercedes Benz ad and for that I apologize ). If you aren't interested in that, in the sheer elegance of everything about her, then she may not catch your eye, or she might seem too intimidating even. And I really don't know much about Sera, I mean, we haven't even seen a shot of her face that is not absurdly pixelated, so who can really say if they find her attractive or not. None of that is to say that they aren't also super gorgeous, because they are, but they are more individualized due to the emphasis put on their characterization (imo)

If we all sit around here discussing our favorites (for me it'd be Cass or Cullen), and then once the game comes out and we actually "meet" these people, we completely change our minds on who we find attractive? Like, maybe Beardy's deep sexy voice and warm heart will win half of us over, and Sera's sense of humor and laid back attitude win claim the other half?

 

Currently we're making so many assumptions based on these people's looks. We may very well end up being taken by complete surprise...

I didnt find the females unattractive. I want to find out more about them myself. The guy that is "straight" found bull and warden more attractive then the ladies and will fawn over them two has me a bit confused as well.  um... what?! I would think he should of said he's bi?  I could be wrong though.

 

Cass or Vivi would be nice to be for the lesbians, they seem to have a strong backed up story, and something that will finally fill whats been missing for them. Question of the gay male to cover theirs?  Me personally, I think I would be quite interested in Sera.

I'm totally expecting this to happen actually. Mind you the main one that would have to surprise me is Sera because I already like the other concepts so far and since I already have some idea of the personalities of Cass, Vivienne and Leliana it's only really Scribbles and Sera that are more mysterious in that department.

This is really one of the ways in which you can't please everyone! Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder so calling someone "conventionally attractive" is tenuous at best since not everyone is of the same opinion when it comes to ascetics! I admittedly do not find Solas attractive so I'm hoping to not be limited to just him. That's another reason why more choice is better! It heightens the chance that you'll find a romantic partner that you do find attractive no matter what gender or sexuality you are.

If game don't have gay romance, then maybe Bioware games just aren't for you. To claim that Bioware has been unfair to gay gamers is kind of ludicrous.Water is wet. You can't ever please anyone, ever. If all 9 companions are gay, gay people still complain it's not enough, If all 9 companions are straight female straight male still find something to complain.
