Worried About Having my Romance Options Limited

Straight women got more options, so I don't see how. Kaidan was our only companion LI and he was available to both genders. Cortez definitely is not a better option than Garrus and Thane.

Straight women get more options (not better options) because we're a large purchasing block of gamers.  This sounds horrible I know being a minority in sexual preferences but a nonprofit organization didn't make the games.  They want money from female gamers.

Now, we are also gay male friendly and like many of the same things so its easy enough for us to play a male character to romance a male, but again, we have to play a male character.

I think our options other than alistair have been pretty crappy, especially if you choose to be a mage.  Fenris is a dick to you.  Alastair in DAA was awesome but an emo whiner in DAII, and the Arishok is unavailable.

Zevran, whether you like it or not is the ONLY character for women or gay men that is a) an original B) remotely interesting, c) has real character progression and arc, and d) is also sexy.

So we have to share him, so what?  He beats the hell out of any of the others and if it makes you feel better, he also tells women that he likes men.

That's because f/f NPC  relationships didn't exist in DA2. Bethany showed cautious interest in her gender? Quick, make her drool over Sebastian. I sometimes felt like my FHawke was a freak of the nature.

This is why I sort of hope that, even if Vivienne isn't a LI, she might still be lesbian or bisexual. It would be really REALLY nice to see other lgb characters in the game (outside of just the ones you can romance).

It would be interesting to have another straight character end up falling for a gay player character due to your persistence and winning their heart by being yourself thus changing their tastes.

Or vice versa with a character that identifies themselves as Gay but eventually falling for your character whose the opposite gender.

No.

Long answer: I really do not think we are prepared for that because of the strong homophobic tenancies that type of story brings, in the real world sexuality can be fluid but in media that can turn into a really bad situation, really fast.

There is not enough representation and there is still a lot of prejudice about being only attracted to some genders and so on, things like straight camps comes to my mind. I would say for that, is better going with bi characters and leave gay and lesbian characters alone.

Edit: Also "your persistence" sounds really bad.

If you mean in 50 ou 60 years probably, I unfortunately do not predict the future but if you take the world as an evidence, it is not better at the moment. Maybe not even by then.

well being a straight male who has gay friends(both male and female)also had a gf who was bi my attitude towards gayness for the lack of a better term is pretty similar to my attitude towards football(soccer) or religion, I'm aware that it exists and that people derive enjoyment from watching or engaging in them and the many aspects of them they are just not something that I will never have any interest in watching or participating in.

That being said it does not stop me from socializing with my gay/bi friends, I spend time with them going drinking at the pub, going to the cinema to catch the latest movie releases/music concerts, having BBQ's etc just as I do with all of my straight friends.

I'm a gay man and I hate this.  Queer folks have fought for years saying we don't recruit, you can't catch gay, you can't turn someone gay, you can't turn someone straight.  I hate people flirting with me when I have made it clear I am not interested.  I would hate my PC to be a creep and that creepiness to pay off.  Honestly, I have seen the wear down technique used on straight women where they are cornered and guarded. Ick.

Bisexual fine.  Curious, OK.  Struggling with sexuality, alright, but not straight or gay identified who gives in because I player won't leave them alone.  Ick.

As a straight man I'm the same with my gay friends who usually made at least 1 attempt at a "come on" my answer to them is usually" I respect you as a person but I don't swing that way so please stop flirting with me it won't get you anywhere" although usually these days other friends tend to do that for me when introducing me to their gay friends.

Interesting stuff.  :)   I disagree on making a character different than what they are in the characters design. Its not something can catch, that is for sure, its who they are, real or created.

Anyways, I read that 8 was confirmed. If its 4/4 then all the females besides the two unromanceable ones are LI. less they go an unbalanced way or they make race gate. Varric as an option for female dwarves, then should be an opposite to match Varric in that case. Wonder which males besides the two known, as there is an extra male over the females.

Question in this thread now is:   Who are the two males?  And is the idea I came up with Varric true?

Edit:  Males known are Cullen and Dorian, who are the other two male options, BW, IB, or Solas. Hope BW isn't to be honest. Left Varric out but possible the female dwarf option. (Id roll a female dwarf just to see that).

Edit Editing:  So Josie is bi, Sera is lesbian which Cassie maybe straight, leaving a question of Vivienne.

Males are Dorian gay, Cullen straight most likely and other two left in dark but IB is (if anyone can handle him sexual, whatever that would be called).

Additionally the idea of a gay woman just 'needing the right guy' is so ingrained in our society that the idea of rewarding that in game is horrifying. Theres really nothing cute or romantic to a storyline like this.

8 confirmed romances with companions and advisors and the possibility to flirt with at least one NPC according to the "What We Know" thread in Scuttlebutt. Also Cass and Cullen are confirmed as straight, Josephine is Bi and available to every race and gender while IB is Bi whether he is race gated is unknown as yet. Also only 2 of the 8 romances will be race gated according to the raptr Q & A. So yeah unless the gender balance is unequal Viv is likely though with what restrictions we don't yet know and that means you can speculate between the remaining boys to your heart's content.  ;)

Note: Technically IB despite his bio hasn't been confirmed available but in answering some of the raptr Q & A his being an LI seemed heavily implied to me.

I may have missed his being announced too in which case disregard this note please.

Exactly. This idea already leads to problems in RL I would certainly hate to see any game validate such a horrible and terrifying attitude.

Thanks Tayah, nope haven't watched that vid yet. I will try but am at work. :)   We kinda know the third male then. Speculation though with heavy imply. Dwarven female and IB would be quite interesting to watch honestly.

It does happen in real life you know. Had a good friend of mine end up discovering that he preferred men when he became an adult, because of this guy he hung out with who later revealed to him that he was gay which made things awkward for awhile. Eventually the two became involved after much yelling and soul searching stuff. While in high school he was getting far more girls than I could ever dream of even kissing me on the cheek.

Guy was a Conqueror but nowadays he's dedicated to only one person who happens to be a guy. If you asked me or him if he would end up realizing that he's actually gay than both of us would have said you were lying. He may have even tried to start a fight over it as his High School reputation was REALLY important to him at the time.

Disagree, people are affected by those they encounter and hang out with. I have a friend who was a huge lady magnet, I still am pretty bitter that I couldn't get even half of what he was doing to even notice me, in High School yet now that the's in adult he's 100% Gay and wont even entertain the thought of touching a woman. Wanna know why? Because he found that special someone and after he got over the whole "OMG, am I Gay?!" crisis thing he eventually accepted that he was in love with the guy.

When they were teenagers they always hung out, but his friend didn't reveal he was Gay til those days were behind us. Naturally my friend, who was a pretty big dude, reacted poorly to the news because he was 100% sure he was straight and knowing his friend was Gay the entire time made him question EVERYTHING. Eventually they mended their friendship and from there it went on to various other levels as my friend came to terms that he loved that guy after the awkwardness of them both being guys passed.

I, for one, am very happy for them that they remained friends. Though if being together is what they want than I support them 100% and I still hang out with them even though I'm 100% straight.

Stop making this only about you, this goes BOTH WAYS. It isn't singling out Gay or Straight.

It literally happens in real life. Maybe not all the time but it DOES happen. I've seen it happen with my own eyes from my own relationships and friendships with others over the years.

Don't tell me you've NEVER met a person who was SURE they were Straight or Gay and than one day when you meet with them again they're no longer as such?

Love finds a way and all that mess. Pretending it doesn't exist doesn't change that this stuff does happen.

Wow, angrier. Ok. Um. Yes people do sometimes realize they were bisexual and such later in life. That wasn't what you suggested though. It was through sheer coercive power on the part of the protagonist the romance option gives in and falls for this other person. Which is not a great set up for many reasons.  No means no. If someone says they aren't interested...LEAVE THEM ALONE. The queer community has a lot of bad stigmas laid on it about being 'predatory' and such, so not many gay people probably want to see or haveta creepily chase a straight person until they stop being straight. And on the flip side, straight people chasing gay people to get them to 'turn' is a HIGHLY problematic concept that plays into real life prejudices and bad attitudes about the community.

Tis true, Love can find away.

Hmmmm  I want to get slightly on topic again about my words earlier.

IB is known to be (anyone that can handle him sexual  (atchh sexual)) also cant be with dwarves due to cinematics jumbo, and listed two race gated. So, he is most likely one of the bi, under the chart of Josie in that same graph but limited to non-dwarves.

Varric is a dwarf, sure, Solas could be elf female only but stand point of cinematic issues, I would gander Varric as female dwarf only LI. That or fill the square in with BW as the LI as vid mentioned possibility, which not sure on.

One isn't a companion or advisor?  No idea who that would be or how well that would be.

We are missing at least one for female, one for male and then one for both? 3 out of 8 unknown now. :)

EDIT: If story reason, Vivienne for humans only

The same logic could be applied to say men are the main purchasing block of gamers so not to have any romances for anyone but straight men. In fact, this is the exact logic that makes video games sometimes a toxic place for women and where "go back to the kitchen" comments originally stem from, and how we don't deserve the attention at all.

It is in the nature of people to want as much as they can, but if we dont look out for the least of us, than why do any of us deserve anything?

Not everyone knows what they want, upbringing does effect things as well and what they're taught as right and wrong. When I was a kid I was on the way of being hugely Catholic because my mother wanted me to be a good Catholic. So we went to Church and stuff and I absorbed what I was taught there. However, after my parents divorced my father sat me down and asked me if I wanted to still go to Church or not. It was the first time I was given a choice and I told him that I wanted to try not going to Church for awhile. So I was on again and off again on that but eventually I stop identifying myself as Catholic because the teaching, and the Priests at my Church, told me that being Gay was wrong and a sin but I couldn't hate my friends that are Bi, Gay or Lesbian. They were my friends and I had zero reason to hate them or make try to demonize them for having a different lifestyle than me.

Stop taking my words out of context as well, it makes you look petty.

YOU may not have been a Dudebro in High School like I, and many of my friends were, but we were and at the time we saw getting laid as a HUGE deal and we often compared how well we did against each other. We were teenagers and both boys AND girls did this. Don't pretend that only guys act like that in High School because that would be very sexists of you. I had friends, who're girls, pull far more than I ever did because they knew what they wanted and how to get it.

Ok fine. While YOU were being a dudebro in highschool I was agonizing over my sexuality. Soooo when I (and a gay man)  tell you that the scenario you envision is HIGHLY PROBLEMATIC...maybe you shouldn't yell at us or write us off. Maybe you should listen to what we haveta say. Cause we both explained ourselves quite pleasantly at first.

Look, you have your life story and I have mine. In mine that stuff did happen and I'm happy for my friends and I wont let anyone go around saying that stuff doesn't happen when I literally saw it happen over a number of years with my own eyes. Now let's drop this since if this continues it could lead to words being said that shouldn't be.
