Aww, I really liked Steve :< he was normal which is rare in BW games but is something I like. As for plot relevance...ME3 had a crappy plot anyway >.< I will trade you, I will take Steve and you can have Jacob and also James creepily hitting on you all the time :D

I'll second that. Steve was way better than Jacob.

I sort of understand people being annoyed that Zevran portrayed the "promiscuous bisexual" stereotype, even if that doesn't personally bother me, but I don't think he was flamboyant or "girly". I don't really see where that comes from.

He was completely over the top, needed to be center of attention, overly flirty- flamboyant.  He was thin, long-haired, very concerned with his appearance, and an elf.  Compare him to say, Sten or Oghren.  Girly.

For Jacob to cheat on me, I'd have actually had to have an LI option in ME2, so it's a sore issue. lol

While I am certainly no Zevran fan, I don't find him to be "girly" at all.  He actually reminded me more of the "Latin Lover" or "Lothario" stereotype, especially given his Antivan accent.  He was more like a Zorro type.  Hyper-sexual and a seducing charmer.  None of that strikes me as "girly" at all.

You made me laugh so hard. Thank you.

I remember that. If you are a straight female, it was best not to romance until someone else did it. This way you could see how screwed up it gets . It was comical.

*snip*

Now you are just putting words in my mouth. All you've done is believe I am implying something and assuming things about my statement when I wasn't, then you say  I dress it up and like to pretend. Let me clarify, I don't consider romances to be central to the game, it can do without them for a number of reasons. That's not me slighting you or anyone who like them, that's me giving my opinion on it. Just because I call a feature useless or worth too much trouble than it is, while you consider it the most important part of the game, it's doesn't mean anything dismissive towards you. If that's offensive to you, then there's nothing I can do about it. My original post wasn't directed at the OP either, it was more at the to and fros I saw in the thread and towards what I frequently see in threads like these.

Also, my statement you quoted equates to, "these people will never be satisfied no matter how good the romances get, maybe for once, they should make a game without them".

Nope.  Not at all.  C'est la vie.

Some people will complain about literally every feature, no matter what they do. Maybe they should just stop making games.

Or instead of looking at partially negative feedback as a reason to scrap an incredibly popular feature that's very unique to Bioware as far as AAA games go, maybe they could actually look at it as a way to improve the system.

Well, they're complete characters. When you create one, you have do define things they like and things they don't like. I feel it's wrong to change who they are because of what you want. That's not what we see in the real life, and it's good when a game keeps some level of realism.

Taking me as example, I would like to romance Bethany on DA2, but as Bethany is our sister I'm ok with she not being romanceable, because we don't see relationships between siblings very often. But for ME, not thinking as Hawke but as Rick, Bethany is the most lovely female companion in the game and I have to deal with the fact that Hawke can't have a romance with his sister.

I think the romance stuff could be improved, but I still think it's a great asset to the game in general :3 It'd be good if they added the whole, gay, bisexual, and straight just because a lot of people seem to want it from what I've read on this thread haha. The romance ain't even that important to the overall game, but it makes things a bit more interesting, don't you agree?

I just hope they don't take it away completely because that would defiantly suck!!

Sorry I've only read the first and last pages of this thread, but I agree with you OP - I'm a lil' worried too for my gay female Inquisitor and gay male Inquisitor. :P I wouldn't be surprised if the best characters turned out ot be straight.

Why does it feel like a lot of posters are on repeat? I swear I've read TC's claims many times on this forum.

Physically he did not look very feminine at all - he had decidedly masculine facial features, and the elf male build is pretty solid and muscular and athletic, not thin.

I don't like your suggestion.

I think all romance options should be openly available to players of any gender.

Yeah people keep repeating that romance isn't important in the overall game but... My question is, what is important? I mean obviously we all differ in our opinions regarding what the most important aspect is, but what is the most important "officially"?

Is it "the story"? In which case romance is integrated very thoughtfully into the overall story, by extension making romance very important.

Well the reason the companions were playersexual in da2 was to give the player more options, no matter what gender and/or orientation. But they either said or hinted that the LIs would be set orientations this time. So I assume they would want to keep the options as well. So that would kind of force them into the 2/2/2 thing, that way there is both.

Also im actually hoping Cullen is still hetero(yes I believe he is straight in dao, shocking I know)

Female Shep needed one more LI: Miranda.

Miranda worked for Cerberus rebuilding Shep. It would have made for all kinds of interesting plot complications.

[...]I found it very frustrating that I couldn’t even express my interest in Alistair, even if it would have been just for him to turn me down. I would have been fine with that; it would have been a realistic way to show sexuality, rather than just making him 100% off limits to male characters. I was not interested in Zevran and since he was the only gay male option I simply abstained.

[...]

Then there was DA2, ...Still, I couldn’t reconcile the oddity of everyone being openly bisexual; it just struck me as unrealistic.  I kept waiting for a conversation regarding his sexuality that never came. So, while I appreciated the options, it certainly could have been executed in a more realistic way.

[...]

In an older Bioware game called Jade Empire, you could romance Sky as either a male or female PC, but what set it apart was how different the romance was for male PCs. He is seemingly a heterosexual man, having lost his wife and daughter, and if you’re playing a female character he will openly flirt with you and show interest. As a male PC, he shows no romantic interest unless you completely rebuff the two female LI’s, at which point he will “approach you with his suspicions,” where you can admit to being interested in him. It makes him uncomfortable and he doesn’t want to talk about it anymore until he’s had time to think. He is hesitant and unsure about beginning a relationship with you if you are a male PC, but eventually he falls for you. On the other hand, as a female he is very easy to romance.

I really find this to be a great alternative to either making everyone openly bisexual or restricting options. It shows a plausible way for the PC to romance whichever LI they want while still taking gender and sexuality into account. The character actually falls for the PC because of who they are, maybe in some cases despite their predisposition, and they still take gender and their own sexuality into account. I don’t know why this hasn’t been done again in any of the DA games (or ME in that case), but I really thought it worked very well. Anyone else have an opinion?

Bolded part above: Oh man, OP. I feel you there, same deal for me.

I totally agree with the parts I quoted you on!

Never played Jade Empire, but what an intriguing idea. I'm leery of applying that treatment to everyone; some people are not and will never ever ever be interested in someone of a particular sex, no matter what. But, with proper care taken to respect the character's personal story, it's a very interesting idea indeed!

Yeeeeeeees?

You know whose voice I heard this in...? B)

That is the easiest and safest route I think. If done well should address everyone's concern.
