But yeah, i think the reward in and off itself is the feeling of accomplishment when you beat a hard game, without getting the extra perks you mention. The whole feeling of surmounting the odds because you were good enough, not because you were helped along the way. Achievement at the end i think is all that is needed, and all i expect to see.

Giving rewards that would make the game easier seems to defeat the point of a harder difficulty. Though I guess you could have some items that are basically balanced but look cool.
Achievement is the thing that really makes sense.

Considering that the DA franchise is one of the few that doesn't reward the player with an achievement/trophy do you think Bio would be right in following the trend? or no?

I'd also give some sort of cosmetic reward to be used in successive playthoughs, to encourage people who usually play on normal to try the harder modes. But certainly not better stats.

But of course. Having easy access to Infinity plus one swords could render difficulty moot.Giving rewards that would make the game easier seems to defeat the point of a harder difficulty. Though I guess you could have some items that are basically balanced but look cool.
agreed.Achievement is the thing that really makes sense.

Wether it's increased loot, better equipment, xp or finally the inclusion of an achievement, what do you nightmare/hard mode players think of this? Discuss...
srsly, please do.
I wouldn't want better loot, equipment, XP or anything that would basically make it easier. I play the hardest mode because I like the combat to be challenging, I don't want this sabotaged by the game then making it a bit easier!
Achievement is good, it doesn't interfere with gameplay.

Honestly i was surprised when DA:O didn't have an achievement for completing the game on the hardest difficulty, when you consider the game is actually quite difficult and you really need to plan each combat to win, we might see it, hopefully we will, then we might see a lot less of the blow hards on forums saying "herp derp i won it on hardest difficulty it was easy!".

DAO awarded several achievements for completing different phases without dying. Granted, if you're playing on casual and reloading a lot, that achievement is pretty easy to obtain.
Some of the DLC awarded achievements for beating the final boss on higher difficulties... and they threw in uber items that load every time you start a new game, which kind of defeats the point of playing on higher difficulties. Good for cash, though. That cudgel you get for Golems of Amgarak sells for something like 300 gold!

Achievements are fine. Someone pointed out the irony in having better loot drops on higher difficulties...
That said, It would be cool if there was some kind of gear only available for killing particular enemies (Like High Dragons or other Hyper-Boss class enemies) on the hardest difficulty, but said gear should be aesthetic only and give no actual benefit to gameplay. Depending on any transmogrification or reforging abilities in DA:I, you could either have a unique looking copy of another legendary item, or just the unique skin itself that can be reforged into any combination of existing stats combinations.

Here's my idea. How about a boss unlock? You finish the game on the highest difficulty and you unlock a secret boss end game. I think it's something to strive for because other than that, there's epic gear you get which you probably won't use much end game as well as the gear itself making things easy for you.
Content like a secret boss or a new quest line with a very hard set of enemies would be really motivating for people to replay the game on the highest difficulty without taking away anything from the casuals.

Secret/Optional bosses or secret ending/scene would definitely get me motivated to finish the game in nightmare mode. Although, others might feel that they're missing something out from the story for not having the time to make the best builds.

Those suggestions would come off more as punishments for not playing on the harder difficulty, it's bad Games Design I'm afraid.
I'm not sure I personally mind, but I don't think that players who play on lighter difficulties should be alienated from content because of a preference.

Some achievements seems like enough. People should play on the hardest mode if they find the challenge enjoyable. I don't see why there needs to be much more than that to it. Extra content just punishes people that can't or don't want to play on harder modes.

Though what do you think about alternate non game-breaking equip drops from bosses (mostly cosmetic) based on difficulty?

Thinking about it a bit more, what I'd appreciate most is for the enemy behaviour at harder difficulties to use more advanced tactics, rather than just throwing out more damage and having more enemies with more hit points. Something to make it distinct.

Here's how I look at it. People who do not play on the harder difficulties are not looking for that level of challenge. So a secret boss that would be hard for one who has completed the game on the hardest difficulty would not be doable at all while also being irrelevant to them because the content offers challenge not the "content" they play the game for on lower difficulty levels.

So basically a Final Fantasy superboss? I could get behind this since the encounter isn't needed to complete the main game, while it's sole function is to p!ss off (challenge) the player. A lower difficulty could render the encounter pointless though. Here's how I look at it. People who do not play on the harder difficulties are not looking for that level of challenge. Don"t be too hasty. This has potential. There could be two nugs. It could lead to a nug breeding explosion. You could come back from a hard day slaughtering the smartest and toughest the forces of evil have to offer and get to clear your keep of 5000 1 HP vermin in a satisfying orgy of destruction.
