There are absolutely not 40 major endings for Inquisition.
40 is the number of major variations in the endings, there are hundreds of minor ones, but truly distinct endings? There are only a few.

Srsly now BioWare don't say things like that, you know it's just gonna upset people when the game comes out... didn't you learn that last time?
Yeah, this is EXACTLY how you get the wrong idea across, get hopes up, and have them crushed at the end.
so you're telling me this is the game to play if i want to be a white dude?
excellent.
Go nuts, sir. There are plenty of them out there.
Welp, one would think BioWare learned from what happened with ME3.
I don't care how many endings there are as long as one of them is good.
Some advancement on this -
Aonuma says - “No one explicitly said that that was Link"
So it quite possibly isn't.
Yet more advancement. Aonuma's clarified what he meant.
"It's a rumour," Aonuma said with a chuckle when I asked him about the speculation buzzing around online.
"Actually that comment I made jokingly," he said. "It's not that I said that it wasn't Link. It's that I never said that it was Link. It's not really the same thing, but I can understand how it could be taken that way.
"It seems like it has kind of taken off where people are saying 'oh it's a female character' and it just kind of grew. But my intent in saying that was humour. You know, you have to show Link when you create a trailer for a Zelda announcement."
However, he doesn't want players to focus too much on Link's appearance in the trailer.
"I don't want people to get hung up on the way Link looks because ultimately Link represents the player in the game," he said.
"I don't want to define him so much that it becomes limiting to the players. I want players to focus on other parts of the trailer and not specifically on the character because the character Link represents, again, the player."
So much for that idea.
It was a really, really dumb theory that made the ME3 indoctrination theory look good anyway, so I'm not surprised he was joking or trolling about it.

Edited that for you.

"Endless romances, unlimited endings, GOTY 2014!!!"
What could possibly go wrong with a hype train like that?
Everything. You think they'd be more careful after Mass 3.
Everything. You think they'd be more careful after Mass 3.
Not that I'm saying Mass Effect 3 was bad 'per se, but I'm pretty sure a lot of those sites had their GOTY awards ready for the final conclusion to the epic sci-fi trilogy of our generation ready before the game even released. Think of Watch Dogs and how many awards that won before it just recently came out.
Well, to be fair... Mass Effect 3 got a TON of emotional reaction to how nearly every single one of their romances ended up, it had one of the most talked about endings of all time and it DID win Game of the Year by many publications.
Now THAT'S PR spin!
PR spinning around those emotional reactions being those of anger or apathy, one of the most talked about endings of all time in that it became notorious for being God awful, and it won Game of the Year awards by many publications that hand out Game of the Year awards to the game that gets them the most page clicks.
So aye.

That's because we got to know the characters over the course of three games. This is not the case with DA:I.
Kinda liked the endings to ME3 myself, though I did prefer the extra info given in the DLC's. I could have done without the Star Child though; have disliked this type of addition for some time (eg; V the mini-series).

Cassandra is.
Cassandra is.
Well, to be fair, we have gotten to know Cassandra and Varric over two games now. Which is the same amount of time we got with ME can faves such as Jack and Miranda.
But then again, who knows if those two (Varric and Cassandra) are guaranteed romances or of the chances of riding off into the sunset are non-existent?
We didn't really get to know Cassandra in DA2. She was merely the Seeker who was interrogating Varric.
Your mom is!
...sorry. I've been in total spoiler blackout, so I wasn't sure who is confirmed as an LI or not.
Would you like to not know?

Would you like to not know more?
Fixed.

I swear, I'll die with a movie/series/literature quote on my lips.
Would you like to not know?

Oh I meant what I said.
