Hoping to see more gameplay of The Order 1886. I can't resist Victorian Settings :P Almost reminds me of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Facial animations are top notch, I liked how they teased it with lighting(or lack thereof).

Kinectless-Xbox One incoming for $399-

http://news.xbox.com...ng-more-choices

And now the excuse that no one wants to develop for it because it doesn't cover the entire install base rears its head once more. Le sigh.

Ah well. That should at least please most people.

In all seriousness, it ain't actually that bad. And its surprisingly durable.

I've pretty much despised the kinect since I first used it and from what i've seen 2.0 is the same apart from some useful voice commands.

Definitely not. I've had both and Kinect 2.0 is faaar superior.

Kinectless XB1 is probably the stupidest thing Microstoft can do regarding Kinect. All they're doing is pulling their slightly inferior hardware down to a price point that only  matches the objectively superior PS4.

And without standardized Kinect support, you divide the development side of things again too. Developers are going to be less willing to invest in developing features for the technology when you can no longer assume that every XB1 owner will have access to it. The biggest problem with Kinect is it was too shoehorned in most of the time. Nobody wants to flail around like an idiot while playing a video game, where as the voice command does have potential.

Also, for my money, I think Oculus Rift/Morpheus is the more Gamer-centric side of peripheral fluff. Enemy Starfighter had an Oculus Rift version built for Pax 2013 (And maybe 2014?) that absolutely blew people away. The simplicity of just being able to look around the virtual cockpick adds a lot to the experience of a game like that. (EVE Valkyrie too)

I would not have gone Kinectless if I were Microsoft. I think they did it just to sell more units because Kinect has a poor reputation from people who haven't even used it.

I was hoping to see some revolutionary stuff down the line thanks to everyone having one;now thats up in the air.

Also excited to see The Order 1886 in action. Rumored to be getting a stage demo gameplay reveal, which obviously makes sense, and Sony is showing extended gameplay off to the European gaming media now, with gushing praise. I personally really like the setting and lore, can't wait.

I have to see this one!  :D I'm more excited for The Order 1886 than anything else, and I don't even have a PS4 yet.

I'm actually kinda curios how you find it useful? I have one for the 360 and its pretty much a waste in my opinion.

My point exactly, people think the X1 Kinect is the same as the 360's and then they get this idea in their head.

The X1 Kinect lets me turn on my X1 instantaneously just by saying Xbox On. In a few seconds everything that was working yesterday is up and running again. Leave a downloaded game running when you shut off your console and the instant-on feature will have it right back where you were last, basically because it leaves the One in a very low power standby mode instead of being completely off. Saves loads of time. Makes my 360 start up feel like it takes FOREVER.

It signs me in to my account by recognizing my face, which is pretty cool. I don't have to do anything but be there and my X1's like, "Hey buddy!" and my stuff pops up.

Snapping- While doing anything, I can tell my X1 to snap whatever to the side of my screen- Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, the party I'm in, Twitch;this lets me play my game and watch someone else's gameplay at the same time, or watch a video, or see who's joining the party, all at once. Using my voice to do this instead of going through the menus saves loads of time.

Kinect also allows me to still join parties with friends and talk to them if something ever happened to my microphone.

On 360 it only worked in certain lighting conditions; On X1 it works in any. Light, dark, lights on, lights off, it will still function. This is a blessing to me as I game with my lights off or with secondary lighting on in my room(nightstand lamp for example).

It scans QR codes which is good for whatever reason you'd ever need to do so.

Basically, outside of Kinect-specific games or Kinect functionality in AAA titles, Kinect is useful as a utility for getting things to you much faster than otherwise.

I GUARANTEE that people who purchase the Kinectless X1 are gonna say, "Why does it take so long to get to certain things? Why isn't this easier? It should be faster. Why don't I have this, why don't I have that?"

The answer would be they could have;its called the Kinect 2.0. Pretty solid piece I'm VERY happy with(though I do wish MS would work on their menus, which I know they will given last gen's massive improvements over time)

And don't get me started on the tinfoil hats people have about people spying on them;as if they're that important that people are gonna single them out and spy on them through Kinect when they already could through a webcam or a cell phone camera much easier for much longer and much more likely.

When the original Kinect didn't do what you wanted it to do, it was annoying, lets be honest.

This go around, while the Kinect 2.0 might still misunderstand you 1 out of every 100 times, thinking you said something to it rather than just talking to someone else or yelling at a game(lol), its charming.

Its almost as if Kinect 2.0 is a pet. Thats how one of my lady friends described it. She brought it up and a bunch of our buddies thought about it;when our Kinect misunderstands us, we actually laugh about it this time instead of getting frustrated.

Its the difference between-

Kinect misunderstanding-"GODDAMN IT KINECT COME ON SERIOUSLY!?"

and

Kinect 2.0 misunderstanding- "Hahahaha, no no no, I meant Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen"(looking at you Earthbound)

People give Kinect a hard time not realizing that its already miles better than it was before and will continue to get better as we go along.

Ehh I don't think most people care about the junk measuring specs contest, at least when they're in the same ballpark as the Xone and PS4 are. They just care about which team they're on, their friends are on, etc, and the exclusives.

I'm still not seeing what the kinect does that a controller doesn't, and that's important because it will cost me an extra one hundred dollars. Voice-commanding everything is a nice to have rather than a need for me. That's why I think they are making it optional. I don't hate the Kinect, as I have never used it, even on the 360. It just felt like a forced gimmick to me, so it's nice to have options. Also, I don't have a webcam, and my cell phone is always in my pocket. I'd rather my privacy be a thing I can choose rather than an optional thing. I know my little life doesn't matter to microsoft, but there are a bunch of weirdo hackers out there. It's not like the chance of my xbox being hacked is high; I'll give you that, but I'd rather have the choice to take that risk rather than being forced to, like I said. Developers can still give kinect users really cool gameplay option while keeping it boring for controller users like myself. I would be the one missing out, not you.

I technically will still be missing out, as devs are less likely to integrate it if not everyone has it.

Ex- If Facebook wasn't as popular as it is, would you see Facebook integration everywhere? Of course not. Its why Facebook is everywhere and BSN is not;its all on the number of people using it.

But I feel you. Choice is fantastic, and if people truly don't want one, all they need do is speak their mind and hope for the best-

Which is exactly what they got. Microsoft is listening;just not the way they thought they would(thru Kinect). :P

To be honest, Microsoft shouldn't be relying on 3rd party devs to make use of Kinect they should be publishing themselves (get people to want the thing for gaming purposes). Devs are gamers too, I'm sure they have the same reservations as many gamers. The Facebook analogy doesn't really fit imo, most everyone wants to use Facebook. Kinect isn't there yet.

Dropping Kinect from the Xbox One was a very smart move as far as price is/was concerned. $499.00/€499.00 ( let's not kid ourselves, it's more or less $500.00/€500.00 ) is a lot of of money and most gamers would also want a game or two as well, you know so that can play something on thier shiny new Xbox One. Over here in Ireland the average cost of a Xbox One game is €59.99 - €64.99 so I presume that the American equivalent is more or less the same, that's a lot of ****** money to spend in one go and that does not take into consideration the added charge of tax in the USA or the massive currency exchange difference when going from dollars to euros and pounds. Microsoft desperately needed to get the combined cost of the Xbox One and a brand new Xbox One game under that $500.00/€500.00.

Of course it would have been better if Microsoft were able to undercut the price of the PS4 by $50.00/€50.00 instead of matching it. Instead of telling lies about the power of cloud gaming Microsofts Xbox One strategy all along should have been next gen power and next gen experiences at an affordable price, very little over last gen prices.

I would like to point out that I was just trying to convince someone that Kinect was still worth getting despite its removal, and as part of the demo I said that again to show off its voice recognition. It thought about it for a little longer than usual and came to the conclusion that I had actually said 'porn hub.'

'Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen'

'Porn hub'

You'll probably have to take my word for it. There was much laughter.

I agree. I don't have anything with a camera that could be connected to the internet. Just always seemed like a bad idea to me.

And I don't think it's a good thing that unsuspecting people could accidentally pull up a "porn hub" by repeating something they might have heard on an episode of Spongebob.

I will forever stick to my completely-offline, camera-less consoles and only use them for games + DVDs/Blu-Rays. The only extra feature I've read about that's of any interest to me is the ability to take screenshots on PS4. I was a little jealous of PC games for that, so it'll be nice to have pictures of those RPG protagonists I spent so much time making in the character creator.
