I thought I'd finally make my custom loadscreens  these days, but for some strange reason photoshop cuts my tga images on save... just a little bit on the corners. No matter how I try I can't see why, and it only happens in tga form. So the question is, can the loadscreens be another form thus solving this issue without a headache?

Thanks.

You can 'fake' TGA character portraits by renaming the extensions of JPG images to TGA, and they show up fine in the game. I don't know if that'll also work for load screens though.

It will. That's how I do loadscreens.

I tried this and the moment I changed it to .tga I opened it with my tga viwer and it was cut again. So I thought it's the viewer's problems not photoshop's. I tested it in an area and it's not cut. But it is a good trick because the same image is much less in size as jpg. Saving space for them haks!

I'm curious about what tga viewer you are using. It looks like there are some plugins that will work with Windows explorer, showing thumbnails and so forth. Not sure which is the best one to use, though.

Irfanview is a handy free image viewer, which has plugins for numerous formats and can be used for conversion and batch operations.  I use it as a DDS viewer, both for full size viewing and for viewing a folder full of thumbnails for selecting a texture.  Note: if it detects that the file extension doesn't match the actual format (a JPEG named as a Targa, for instance), it'll inform you of this, and ask if you want to correct the name.  You can say no, though.

Gimp/Paint.net for me. Then ReNamer {http://www.den4b.com/} to take care of batch renaming, extensions and stuff.

Just a note for beginners: An important distinction between a viewer like Irfanview and an editor like GIMP or Paint.NET is that in the former, the emphasis is on speed and lightweightness, so you just execute an image file, and it appears on screen, and you press a key to advance to the next image in the folder or backtrack to the previous image in the folder, or another key to quit.  An editor is a larger program that you open, which typically takes longer to do, and can open several files in multiple little windows within the main program, but there's no functionality to quickly move through the folders, and is rather intended for modifying the textures.  I use Photoshop for that purpose, which is similar to GIMP and Paint.NET.

I have Sage Thumbs as a quick viewer/converter, but I don't use it that much.

It's best use is for the thumbnail handling in Windows Explorer.

Even that would be pretty handy when you have a large portfolio of .dds and .tga files. Thanks.

No problem. :)

I find it works fine for what it does, and as you say, it certainly fills a requirement missing from Windows.

Cheers,
Lance.
