WIth DA2 being unable to skip the tutorial, was a major pain in the rear end. Will we be able to skip the DAI tutorial, after playing through once?

Who else found the DA2 tutorial annoying?

I am with you on this.  Same with the Mass Effects.  When I replay, or redesign my prtagonist it sucks sitting through an hour or more of tutorial.

Omg yes, being able to skip tutorials/prologues would be amazing.

I don't know how many times I wished I could skip the origins in DA:O after doing them a million times or that 'god-mode exaggeration' fake prologue of DA2.

And then ME3's tutorial *shudders*

I agree with you, which is why I have a mod in my game to skip that annoying tutorial. Its good for those who never played before, but after playing once or twice we don't need it.

The part up to the ogre fight functioned as one, I think. I vaguely remember instructions popping up along the way how to move forward and attack stuff, etc.

It would be nice to have an option to skip if the game knows you've played through once already.. you would just end up with the exp and post tutorial phase.

But it's never bothered me too much in the past.

DA2 had a tutorial?

more or less. a few pop ups thats all. though I wouldn't call that a tutorial, it's over in 5 minutes if you bother to read them. literally no time at all if you don't.

and yes because it's probably a part of the early quests like the last two

The best tutorials are unskippable because you don't realize it's a tutorial at all.

I think, unless my brain is a liar, that there is a clear plan to have the tutorial be important. Like not just, teach the rules, but be part of the story. I remember hearing them saying that the "tutorial" is where you make your character, with the things you do and say.

I think it'll go like this, you pick your race, gender, and build a face (character creation), then you start the game and arive at the peace meeting (nice little cutscene), and by talking about who you are with the people there you build your character's background (chosing class maybe even and having a dialog and general controls tutorial), then there is an attack before/during the big explosion and you get drawn into the fade (combat tutoral) or whatever.

You wouldn't skip it because it is integral to the character creation and story of the game. But that's just my idea.

I just started up a new DA2 game yesterday. Didn't bother me at all. I find it to be quite short and I like the backstory that is provided therein, mainly the simmering sibling tensions. And I heart Aveline. The part where she gets Wes to stand down I always find quite touching.

The only thing I guess I didn't like much is that for the ogre/Darkspawn swarm they give you some skills to play with that you won't actually have access to for a few more levels. But I want Scythe now!

ME2 had the worst tutorial from any game I played and there was no way to skip it.

DA2 was fine for me.

I absolutely loathe in-game tutorials. I find them insulting to the intelligence of the player. It also really makes me miss full paged instruction booklets.

If a tutorial is in-game then in should be completely optional. DA2 wasn't as bad as you could skip it as previously pointed out. ME3 however was appalling in this regard. Making the entire beginning level of Earth a dreadful hold-your-hand experience really scuffed my shoe.

In closing, I hope we get a simple instruction manual. If not, then at least the tutorial should be skip-able.

I think this all comes down to how people like to learn. In the VARK learning style model, I'm very Visual and Kinesthetic so I hate instructions manuals. They never have enough images to explain what I need to do and I prefer to get into the action rather than read about all the fun I'll be having first.

I like tutorials like DA:O and DA:2, they let you get straight into the action with enough visuals to let you know what to do and limited hand holding.

I was not a fan of the ME:3 tutorial  I thought it went on for too long, especially since the controls had not changed much from the last 2 game so they very intuitive.

The tutorials don't bother me (as long as there's a way to disable the popups). Generally, by the time you're familiar enough with the controls and changes to the combat mechanics and GUI to warrant skipping the tutorial, you're at the point where you're through it in 5 minutes anyway.

What I'd like to see is a slight variant start for more experienced players, with somewhat more challenging fights and no tutorial text.  Just tweak the stats and maybe spawn a couple of extra bad guys, nothing that'd cause loads of work hopefully.  Maybe give the player a minimal level boost to start off with too, though nothing that'll make much of a difference in the long run.

You could have it locked unless you've completed the game once or imported.

I had completely forgotten that DA2 had a tutorial

I don't mind tutorials when they are integrated in such a way that you don't feel like you're just being hand held. I'm a fan of learning as I go and not having to sit and read long explanations or do those annoying tutorial levels at the start of a game.

Honestly, the most memorable openings to games for me were the ones where I stepped out into the world without a clue of what I was doing. In Dark Souls 2 I walked right past the tutorial area without realising it was there  I just learnt how to play as went. Maybe DAI should have something like that. That way you can skip it if you want, or accidentally if you are as stupid as I am.

I have seen the tutorial too many times, often because I make a character and then when I see the model in game it looks bad funky, so I need to go back and do it again, fighting the same enemies in a bland area, and unable to skip the dialogue and cutscenes I'd seen a bunch of times already.  I like the Black Emporium's mirror, but I would have liked to miss Mom whining, and Carver being a prat.  The Mass effect stuff was worse, long loading screens, slow mo walking, little in the way of interesting content all over basic controls.  Skip, please.

Especially when you just want to design you character, and get into the action. DA2's tutorial just annoyed me, it starts with fault hawk then only changes when you get to the customised bit,(that was  off-putting).

Problem is, unless your a PC gamer you can't use mods to skip it.

Totally agree with Berelinde here, the only thing that tends to bug me is when there is no ability to disable the tutorial pop-ups. So as long as that is there, I'm fine with whatever 'story' element is within the 'tutorial' area.

It's like this for me too. If I only saw the tutorial once for each character I created there wouldn't be a problem. But it's usually half a dozen times before I don't get halfway through the tutorial, then decide my latest creation has to go back for some fine tuning. After which, back to the start of the tutorial for me. You could fix tutorial annoyances for me by leaving the tutorial alone and changing the character creator so I could see what I'd conjured up in the game environment.

Exactly. I don't mind tutorials per se, but it is grating to have to sit through long introduction sequences to tweak a character's appearance. Considering we might be spending 50+ hours staring at that character, it would make sense to me to have a character creator that realistically displays the character as he/she appears in-game (and while I'm at it, it would be great to have face codes in DA, like in ME).

I have to admit, tutorials are a pain. Especially on a second playthrough. Make it a toggle or at least allow the player to skip it, Bioware.

If the tutorials happen during the story, such as with the Mass Effect games or DA:O or KOTOR, I wouldn't mind having to play it.
