Ok, this is the second major gaming forum site where I have this problem.

HEY!  Website Programmers!  FF and Chrome and Safari are NOT the most used browsers on the planet.  It's still IE, and more and more IE users are on IE10 or IE11.

Get your act(s) together and code for IE first, (which, by the way, is more HTML5 compiant that the others anyway).

Here's what happens when one clicks the "insert url" button when using the forums with IE11:

Oh, and basically the same thing happens when trying to insert an image url as well!

The only way to move forward is to close the browser window completely, losing everything one has already entered up to the point of wanting to add a link.  :o  :pinched:  :(

Com'on!  This isn't rocket science.

Don't rely on framework shortcuts.  Build a site that actually works when the client browser is compliant with the standard.  B)

Actually, from what I can tell from the statistics, IE is no longer the most used browser, but any way, IE has a whole host of issues with this site so you are better off just pasting the actual link on the post.  You can also use the white button at the top left corner to get the bare bones editor.

If you want, you can enable IE's Developer Mode to remove the pesky window and recopy your message.  At least you'll be able to retrieve your content. :)

And I never code for IE first.  Never ever. To each his/her own. :)

Debatable, since the most commonly used counters (Wikimedia, W3C, etc.) don't properly recognize the two most recent versions of IE.

But since IE is automatically installed with every Windows PC...

Anyway, would love to see EA's own stats of the browsers being used to access the site.

And regardless of which browser is used to prototype a site, it should at least work properly with the top three, (to say nothing of being HTML5 compliant) n'est ce pas?

My rule has always been to develop for Firefox and work my way to other browsers.  Agreed that support has to be made with top browsers to a functional level, IE included. :)

For this site in particular we have below 10% of users running any version of IE. Chrome is winning the browser battle here by about double any other browser but I believe those stats combine mobile and desktop.

The editor is part of the forum software and in turn the bug is with the a 3rd party editor they use. It is on our list of things to look at but isn't at the top.

I'm sure most of it is from the mobile department as Android has Chrome installed now.  Thanks for the post, Jesse.  Be careful not to turn this into a browser war though!

Make a note that IE11 and up uses Mozilla as the user agent.  If you can parse through the Trident field then, OK. :)

Ahhhh...  "IP Boards", is it?  That explains it.

Another note for whoever might be "looking into it":  On this site, the "Quote" another post button doesn't work properly with IE11.

It starts the "Reply" process, but the original post doesn't display.

And thanks for the info about the use of browsers, Jessie!

As someone already noted, Chrome climbs to the top since mobiie use is included in the count.

(Which doesn't mean it's not the most frequently used client.  It obviously is.  B) )

And Jesse ...

What do you think the chances are ...

With IE not working properly on this forum ...

That use stats might favor other browsers?

Kind of like stats that show a bank has very few customers using its website, when the website is down for maintenance.

I think there is a word to describe that kind of logic ...

Considering that they've bunched together the mobile and desktop users.  Highly unlikely that your scenario is unfolding.  I fully expect a majority of Chrome users to be on the mobile platform.
