I liked Alistair, and I never had him end up as a drunk. He either became king, died, or stayed a Warden. Sometimes my character romanced him, sometimes they were just friends. My main character, a human female mage, romanced him but lost him when he became king and he left her. Fortunately Zevran was there to pick up the pieces. My game saves have all three of these things.

In my OG game me and Alistair didn't get along because he was a whiny b*%#% who complained on how I did things but was too scared to take charge himself.  However, he did his duty by killing the Archdemon valiantly so hopefully I'll see a nice big statue of him in DAI.

He rules with Anora in my canon save... though my warden is still his mistress. 

 

I think that being a warden would probably suit him better though.

Because I'm nasty and it shows how selfish my Warden is while she saves the world.

 

That's my headcannon City Elf DA:O state too, though I don't think OGB is necessarily a demon per se. 

 

Though as to the pics at the beginning of the thread, Alistair looks sexier in his Warden outfit. So now I want to see him as both.

Hum...I made 3 worlds states so far , in one he is married to my cousland and ruling with her . As much as I like Alistair (and thats moderate)....I don't care if he show up or not . And if he does...I hope he doesn't go 'Swooping is bad'...cose I smack him ! 

 

If he show up in any capacity , I hope he has a bigger role then showing us how his face look in the new engine and cracking a lame joke all over again....

Have done 5 world states for entry with 3 different fates for Alistair.

 

1) Canon Surana mistress with Solo King Alistair

2) Queen Cousland ruling with him

3) King Cousland with Grey Warden Alistair

4) Drunk Alistair, Loghain dead

5) King Alistair with Anora, Loghain alive--for my completely horrible all messed up choices Keep state, I did the worst thing I could possibly think of to do to him.  And my Warden is dead, so he can't b*tch at her either

I do adore Alistair, and I know many others that do, he's a good guy, he's funny, in reality I would befriend someone like that.  The only other DA:O companion that I care nothing for is Zevran, he actually makes me feel sick...

I'm just curious if they will delve into the significance of his bloodline/blood. I found that part very interesting, seems like it would tie in quite strongly with what presumably is going to happen in DA:I.

Supposedly a dev said that Alistair's parenthood would be explored. Considering that recent reviews revealed that Fiona is still alive, it is likely that they will meet.

My Alistair was King in most my playthroughs except one where he died saving the warden who he loved.

That is good to know. Combine this with the Primeval Thaig, and I think we could learn quite a lot about the fade, red lyrium, and a host of other things.

Honestly, hating Alistair was hard to do on my evil-Warden play-through.  He just kept being so nice and making me feel bad..... so when I finally had the chance, I had to have him executed.  No regrets after that... I get to make a baby with Morrigan and live forever with my dark secrets of forbidden magic.

 

On my ultimate good-guy Warden, I had him, Wynne, and Lelianna as my main party... he became king with Anora, and I spared Loghain which really made him mad... but at the end of the game he says "I'm not angry anymore." Because Loghain dies... It's really the perfect ending.

I prefer Alistair as King in a way. My main (or was) play through was my Human Noble marrying Anora and having Stepdad Loghain on my squad. I do not justify his actions but after reading the novels, its easier for me to take him in. Anora is attractive and I can be King! What's not to love? I get to sleep with Morrigan OGB Ritual, be king, and have Anora? Awesome. The whole fact that Anora doesn't have a heir with my warden and I "lose" the throne by doing a disappearing act anyway.. I left with romanced Morrigan thru the mirror. Not that satisfying from that perspective, I could have had Alistair become King with Anora and pretty much have the same outcome.

Guys and Gals, how do you romance Alistair and do the OGB ritual without feeling kind of weird? Its just off putting that the only way to continue a romance is by having him sleep with Morrigan.. I just feel like they should had offered something else to it instead.

I do not have Alstair as King in any of my Keep files, between the two save files of having Alistair exiled in my Warden sacriced or executed in a more GOT "inspired" keep file.

My Warden-Commander made his best friend king. In Mass Effect's interactive comic, if you chose Anderson as councillor, Shep says something like "Anderson didn't want the job, which made him the perfect choice. No ambition to get in the way." A King who doesn't want power, can become a grand King. A king who wants power, wants more until he's a tyrant. So, Alistair's a great choice to be king.

The way i always look at it is, Origins requires a sacrifice.  Either a life.  Or innocence.   If you want that 'happy ending' on a romanced Alistair, you have to make that sacrifice.  With this romance it's 'try to find what happiness you can while you can before it's gone' since both of you have a limited life span anyway.

True, SylvanAerie. I guess that small issue of sleeping with another person to survive the Blight together is actually worth it. I just blew it out of proportion. It has bugged me for a long time though.. I had never went the romance route just knowing what was going to happen. I think I should go the romance route as Human Noble with King Alistair while waiting for DAI. Hmmm.. -currently running Mage play through.-

It's very bittersweet, knowing Alistair, who just wanted a family more than anything, will be having his only child with a woman he hates.  And he will never see it.  One reason I hate all the fanfics of Alistair and the warden getting married and having children (despite the difficulties of such a union for reproduction) is because, to me, that cheapens the sacrifice he makes to save your lives.

 

Of course, people have their own head canons and that's one of the nice things about Dragon Age being a very personal game.  Everyone can make up their own stories to go along with it.

I have a few World States planned but my cannon one has Aedan Cousland ruling Ferelden with his wife Anora Loghain is serving out the rest of his days as a Grey Warden and Alistair is a traitor & a Drunk.
