Since Leliana is already confirmed as being non-romancable, I think this pretty much confirms Vivienne as an LI. (And she's probably bi, too.)

 

Also probably race-gated, since we know there are two race-gated companions. Probably one for each gender.

 

Hm. Too much interpretation going on, like one of those old logic puzzles. I'll try to clear up the OP best I can.

Just want to chime back in and say thanks for the thread and keeping it updated especially considering the amount of info in the last couple of days. Also thanks Terrian for the confirmation of 8 companions/advisor romances I was a little worried when I first read about the NPC option and whether that would take one of the slots. It's nice when someone else already has an answer for a question you've just realised you want to ask. Anyway thanks again you folks are awesome.

...you all do know the next suggested bi character is suppose to be male right? There needs to be one more straight for both genders (which makes vivienne a given) and iron bull is bi based on his back story hinted ( weather he's roman able is iffy, will state that it WONT be race fated. Why? CUZ HE HASNT BEEN WITH THAT MANY Qunari IN A LONG TIME!!! Sorry for caps rage, but there is more evidence to prove none race gates then the fact everyone SAYING he's race gated cuz of race :/ )

I'm hoping IB For bi and Varric for fem race gated dwarf. Which I would assume vivienne is race gated as well but not enough to assume for her tho @_@

They confirmed 8 romance options during the raptr interview.  I forget where, but it was 8.  They also mentioned that one was neither companion nor advisor.

 

Here's the quote:

"Since so many people are interested in romances I'll confirm a few things for you.
* There's 8 romances.
* Only 2 of those have any racial preferences (for story reasons)
(CL)"

 

I couldn't find it again on Raptr, but here it's listed with the others on this fan page:

More news I forgot to mention: at least one romance option is neither a companion nor an advisor:

(?) indicates that the response didn't say which dev it was from. 

 

Again, couldn't find the original, but the link to the Q&A copy and paste has it, and I saw it myself during the Q&A.

 

Since there have been five out of eight romances announced, and at least one of those is not a companion or advisor, then out of Vivienne, Iron Bull, Blackwall, Solas, and Varric, only two (at most), can be romanced.

While Iron Bull hasn't been specifically confirmed, it sounds likely he will be romanceable.  If this is true, then out of Vivienne, Blackwall, Solas, and Varric, only one will be available to players.  I suspect imminent fan sadness. 

 

Also, IIRC, it was specifically stated by a dev somewhere that you will not be able to romance Empress Celene.  Wouldn't it be hilarious if you could romance Grand duke Gaspard instead?    Another possibility: Dagna, race-gated only for dwarves.  We know she's in the Inquisition, and although she seemed like a kid in Origins, 10 years have passed.

 

EDIT:  Just noticed that 8 romances was already mentioned.  You might want to remove the bit about the implication of at least 6 romances, since we now know the exact number.  That's what made me think the 8 romances hadn't been mentioned.

Why are you assuming the other unannounced romance options have to be straight?  What if it's 2 straight, 2 gay, 4 bi?  Or some combination that isn't an even split, with one gender getting an extra straight character and the other an extra gay character?  Also, race gated doesn't necessarily mean they'll only romance one race.  They could romance two, or all but one.  I can see Iron Bull romancing all races but dwarves due to the size difference causing animation problems.  After all, everything I've heard about race gating makes it sound like animations are the main issue, as opposed to storytelling and writing being the main issue with sexuality.

It was clarified, that those 8 romances are within the companions and advisors. What Cameron Lee meant, was a flirt option outside those romances. 

Two of theses romances are race-gated due to story-telling, so it's nothing about the animation. 

 

Edit: I also presume it will be 4 bi romances.

So there has not been any word on the background of the mages? Qunari i would guess would be pretty much the same, but human or elf could be anything... circle, hedge mage, Tevinter, keeper (or apprentice keeper like Merrill) or something new...

Well since they said, that elves are always Dalish and won't be the Keeper, I'd presume, they will be the First.

As of humans, they did't say it, but since they have the same surname and non-mages are noble, they'll probably will be ex-circle mages.

Source, the devs has stated the NEXT Bi character is Male.  Now i AM assuming that the last 2 straight romances are one from each gender (this could be both males, why is there no 2 females?  CUZ THERES ONLY VIVIENNE LEFT lol which makes it a easy pick if you wanted to call me a betting man ;D ).  Also your assuming that race gateing is based on technical issues.  This would leave every romance Dwarf out based on this logic (come on, if size is the problem then dwarf is SOL).  I get IB is huge, but that doesn't necessarily mean no.  The devs have also stated (you can see this quoted in multiple posts on the forum) that the Race-Gates are Story Based not Technical Based.  So those are my reasons, i make no illusions my choices on who is my own with their reasons.  But i feel more confident with the sources so i can only wait till later =3

AH one of THOSE people...

This was at GaymerX and quite literally one of the panels was called Romance. There was other stuff but stuff like romance are always can favorites on BSN. I'd check out Lady Insanity If I was you she would have something on her blog (check out the YouTube video of GaymerX and in the description there will be links)z
