It could also be Mass Effect: Dentist or Mass Effect: Context, but it's probably Mass Effect: Contact.

Oh, this again.
Oh, bullspit.
I'm sure the "insider" here is actually a person that some people care about as a source as they have been right some times in the past, but a couple of points:
1 - If he were really an insider who revealed information like this, they wouldn't be an insider anymore. You don't allow people who say what they know to be "insiders" into your product.
2 - They took what was one of the most prevalent rumors, that the next ME game would take place before the trilogy during the first contact war (we has people asking us for this back before ME3 was shipped), removed a few letters from the most obvious word and called it a rumor. It is clever because game titles are generally short (instead of calling it Mass Effect: the quest for the lost civilization of aliens with spaceships and cool stuff or whatever) and again THERE IS NO WAY FOR BIOWARE TO DISPROVE THIS. Sure, they could disprove it by saying what the title actually is, but if they are going to do this, they will wait until DE3 (at best) when the press is gathered, not to confirm or deny a rumor.
3 - Before people come back with "This guy is an insider and has been right about A, B, C, etc in the past", anyone keep track of the times they were wrong? Everyone remembers they guy who breaks teh news when they're right, but do you remember all the times they made claims that turned out wrong? A broken clock is right 2 times a day, make enough guesses and some will be right.
Now, could it be true? Sure. As I said, way back fans were asking for a First Contact War game. BioWare and the ME team have said that the next game will not feature Commander Shepard. A good way to ensure this would be to set the game before they were born (ok, not born but also not serving why still in diapers). As I said, the problem with this "rumor" is that BioWare won't confirm or deny it until they are ready to do so. I have said before, I don't think we're going to hear about MENext at E3 this year (I'd be happy to be wrong though), so I think we'll have to wait quite a bit before we learn if this is real or not.
Fans were asking for a First Contact War game?
Oh, this again.
Lots of speculation for everyone!
I think the most likely scenario would be a sequel and first contact with a previously unknown, but advanced and aggressive, alien race. Classic scifi trope, but it is the most likely direction for the series to take.
Or a Alien-like species... man that's ambiguous in this context.
I meant the Aliens from the Alien Quadrology. Do they have a name?
*wikis*
Xenomorph. Pure killing machines. Er, organics.
Didnt Bioware say somewhere that ME4 would be alot more exploration-based? And feature a couple of new species? Maybe the word 'contact' refers to just that, making first contact with new places and peoples (maybe at a point in the future where all the mass relays have finally been repaired) and whatever crazy crapstorm that might arise from that.
First Contact War: Limited engagement with a Turian patrol fleet, surrendering, then watching as the patrol fleet is forced to withdraw.
60$ right there.
Yeah, the FCW doesn't strike me as a compelling premise for a game, given that it was short and based around what amounted to a misunderstanding. If they're going the prequel route, I'm hoping it's based it on the period in between the FCW and the Shepard trilogy, maybe centered around expansion in the Attican Traverse and how it impacts relations with the Council species and the batarians. There's plenty of room for a smaller conflict that would incorporate choices and lead to different outcomes for, say, a particular group of colonies without being so huge as to alter the established history.

That's what Wing Commander ended up doing.
Screenshot that proves "Mass Effect: Dentist" is the new title of the game.
Only way to top that would be a picture of Kai Leng holding a toothbruth...
If they made a shooter about the first contact war, I guarantee the player character would kill more turians in a single mission than died canonically in the entire conflict.
Kinda reminds me of the old David Simon rant about how during one year, there were more homicides shown on the three Law and Order shows (all set in Manhattan) than there were actual homicides in Manhattan for the year.
Returning to the original topic, a prequel just doesn't sound like the most promising way to go (haven't the prequels taught us anything about this? Or even Prometheus?). My guess is that the next ME game, whatever it's called, will be set far enough into the future so as to give the writers a way to hand waive a lot of the differences between the endings; that will be exceedingly difficult with Synthesis, but it still seems like the most likely route to me.
Its already been confirmed a sequel by Aaryn Flynn. http://motoringcrunc...tails/10011795/ I wish this contact war stuff would die down already.

And how many people still play wing commander? Dear God lets hope not, otherwise... Just nuke the series from orbit.

Depends what you mean.
Someone (largely corporate and suit wearing) about 12 years ago decided space was dead for video games, unless it was an FPS with stars in the background.
Descent Freespace and Xwing vs TieFighter, Freelancer, Starlancer, Privateer, were amazing games at their time.. Yes I played the original Wing Commander while I was at Uni 22 years ago. and loved every nanosecond of it.
Apparently space sims were kiled off by FPS games. However - some might say that certain kickstarter projects suggest that was a bit on the "cobblers" side. But whatever.
Personally I'm ready for Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen and especially Valkyrie on morpheus/PS4.
Frankly in the last 18 months I've played freelancer MUCH more than ME3. On my hex-core i7 with twin GTX780s. ME3 still depresses me, but Freelancer is still a buzz to win.I don't care that it looks 10 years old. Chess is over 1,000 years old and no-one complains about that.
Its probably not the "contact" people think it is (The First Contact War). "Contact" can be anything.
After all,a whole Mass Effect game only about The First Contact War is pointless without retconning. There isn't anything that interesting or story-worthy in that war to let it occupy the entire game. Its rather short, and if we'd stick to the original story, the entire game would have mostly only 2 races: Turians and Humans.
The first contact war (or some engagements from it) could just be the introduction to the game, I imagine an incredible ammount of stuff went down in the weeks and months following the end of the war, and could be the basis for exploration and adventure applenty, first contacts with the other counci species ect...
However the idea of a prequel depresses me greatly
