Okay so i have an item in game that vaguely resembles a motion tracker, you wear it like a cloak or bag or something and it slots onto the body. . . . I have the sound files.

What we want to do is have it so that if you get in a certain range of another NPC is plays the sound file

Also if you have several NPC's within range it plays a faster beeping soundfile.

There was also an idea to link this into the Ranger tracking skill.

Anyway, whats your thoughts community .. how should this be built?

The mini-map can be used to detect undead when you have the detect undead spell active. But I'm not sure if that capability is expandable--it may be hard coded.

Can the Ranger tracking skill detection be modified by the Hide skill and active use of stealth mode? If there's a way to conceal and show life forms through stealth, then it could be done dynamically.

Other than that, perhaps there's a way to adapt Lance Botelle's FoW system for this purpose?

Do you want it to actually track things like in the minimap, or will it just beep when things are in a given range?

Well then I'd probably just use a regular old heartbeat script that checks for NPCs in a spherical volume, determines their detectability, then uses the result to call a function to play the sound centered on the PC. If you need multiple sounds in a row during the round, you could just loop a DelayCommand of the function N times with a delay of 6 seconds / N during the round.

There's a way to change the heartbeat round too, if necessary.
