I don't know if pre-ordering is the same overseas, but I'm talking about a UK game shop here.

So I went into Game and asked if they had any copies (preferably Limited Edition) for pre-order. They did, and I was put down for either a normal copy or a LE copy, saying I could choose what one I wanted on the day, and pay then. The guy behind the till mumbled something about a code in his pre-order list file not working. He gave me a receit (with £0.00 on it) with stuff about ME2 on it: that it was an xbox 360 copy I wanted, that it was ME2 etc etc.

That's all I need, right? This receipt will get me a copy on release if I go and try to pick one up? I haven't pre-ordered in store at Game before and would like some reassurance that this single receipt is all I need :3

Well, generally, yes that receipt is a contract for both you and the store accepting impossible circumstances such as publisher delay, spontaneous combustion, etc.

Although, here in the states, you don't even need a receipt. You register in the store's computers and you just come and pick it up.

But sh*t happens sometimes, and I got fed up with it and thus why I do digital releases. No way for any of those things to really happen. So I will get my game on release day, not before, not after. No risks :)
