I am now playing the Soldier's Peak DLC and I listened to all of the dialogue so far up to when I got to the part where Avernus orders a retreat in the flashback, as the Abominations are no longer controlled by him that he summoned through blood magic. I began to ponder if this instance may carry over into DA:I, as an effect on the "Tear in the Veil" in DA:I

When I finally get to Avernus himself in the flesh, he explains how using blood magic and the demons/abominations behind it cannot have any effect on the darkspawn, since the darkspawn taint is alien to anything coming from the veil (I am paraphrasing). He mentions how much more power the wardens could have from his research if he could figure out how to use darkspawn taint to their advantage. I wonder if this research finds its way into the DA:I storyline. To get a gist of what Avernus claims, I made a short video regarding the pertinent parts, just in case.

Thoughts?

If you let him live you get an attribute +2 potion in DA2 with an imported warden save. I'm not sure if he will be around for DAI.

Corypheus may actually be the threat. He can control the Wardens and jump into their bodies if you kill him.

Pretty sure Avernus explains that he can't use blood magic against demons, since it comes from them, but that they are vulnerable to darkspawn taint, because it's alien to them. Blood magic works just fine against darkspawn.

It's certainly possible that Avernus's research could be a plus-up to fighting demons or sealing tears, although it's also not necessary.

I remember that and what the player earns from playing different choices in SP. I am just wondering if this research may be used or be part of  DA:I's main plot, not that any character(s) from SP makes it into game.

Yea, I remember much of that. But Avernus' remarks to the Wardens getting more power from his research as it relates to the creatures from  the tear(s) in the veil(s) by researching more on the DS seems like an intriguing possibility. The way he explained it in SP (as in the video) makes this fairly plausible.

I'm starting to get really pissy with this quoting thing.

Anyway ghostbuster101 said that Corypheus was the one to watch out for. I'm thinking yes. Remember at the end of Legacy, the look on Larius' face? Had Corypheus found a new host? One with tainted blood? Does this make for a new archdemon? Mwahahaha.

I think this is actually an interesting point. And it nicely ties the Grey Wardens back into being relevant in a story where demons are the main antagonists. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

Bioware could easily really make something out of this in Inquisition. Even if they don't specifically mention Avernus or Soldiers' Peak (though now I kinda hope they do), they could still touch on this same bit of lore.

Is that Corypheus thing just a theory or what? If it's true, holy crap! That completely went over my head.

Spoiler

Despite this, I can't see Corypheus being the main antagonist of DA:I or anything because Legacy is a DLC. Still, Bioware likes to retcon much in the DA universe (ex: character deaths) so they'll just do what they want.
