Yeah, BW clearly didn't care so why should I?

24 - great TV show. I'm a fan. However.... the show got into trouble because of fictional portrayals of torture.

Fictional portrayals of morality have consequences in the real world.

Quite the contrary.  I stopped playing Mass Effect for near on a year, when on a whim I decided to replay ME because I got "Citadel" on sale.  Well it turns out that I had lost my disk with my ME2 saves, so I went on to relay that game, and I remembered why it is in my top 3 favorite games.  Even ME3 wasn't bad, genophage arc was great, and the combat remains really fun.  But Citadel really restored my love, a little over the top fan service was all that was really needed.  Yes the ending was still phenomenally bad when I got to it, but now I choose to fondly remember the good parts instead.

The movies weren't a bad adaptation. Understandably abridged, but that's not a terrible thing.

No Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth, among other things.

I'm OK with the cuts, but Jackson does have a tendency to add actiony bits of his own, like the collapsing-stair bit in Moria. I think he's getting a bit worse. I really could have done without that whole barrel-ride sequence in Desolation of Smaug, which is just way too cartoony for my tastes.

For some reason I hit the wall after the Geth Dreadnought.  I just play multiplayer for awhile and go back later.

It's more the butchering of the characters that does it for me. Gimli as comic relief? Aragorn as an emo wimp?
Don't even get me started on the paths of tge dead. Or the siege of minas tirith.
Argh, need to stop. I can feel myself getting annoyed just thinking about it.

The siege of Minas Tirith was utterly brilliant. Aside from the army of the dead coming in to kill the orcs, which I'm not overwhelmingly fond of. Aside from that, perhaps the best battle I've ever seen in fiction.

So many great moments. Gandalf's musings on 'A Far Green Country,' Theoden rallying his men, the-girl-whose-name-I'm-not-going-to-try-and-spell killing the Witch King.

The problem is, it's not Tolkien. It's jackson. Look at the scene where they break the gate; nothing like the book and much poorer for it.

Is that right? And how is that?

Yes it is. How? Go read the climatic confrontation between Gandalf and the Witch King, then go watch a few ogres break down a door.
Or another example: 'Go home, Sam." What?!?

If you seriously expect a movie to be exactly like the book, then you have problems. No one cares, the LOTR movies were excellent

The people that were discussing it clearly cared, but because you don't - no one does?

This is the only contribution that you have made to your own thread in dozens of posts and it is a bit trollish and antagonistic.

Well over a page of this thread has nothing to do with the OP, so don't point fingers at me

Only on BSN can I feel alone in adoring the hell out of the LOTR films.

You're not alone.... er, unless you want to be, heh. I thought the films were fantastic. In fact this discussion makes me want to to watch the films again.

So, because the thread became tangential and derailed, you shouldn't be called out for being an ass in your own thread? That makes sense.

I haven't played ME since I made what I consider my canon Shepard a few months ago. I had made many characters beforehand that experimented with classes and personalities. Note: Because of the para-phrasing system you don't know what Shepard will actually say until you click on it. Paragon gave the happiest story but felt too cheesy. After I made a character with flaws I didn't "lose interest" from boredom but just felt I couldn't make a better character.

I haven't lost interest in playing the trilogy. At times I take a break by doing something else and then when I start playing the trilogy again, I do a lot of playthroughs till I want to take a break again.

This. Kicked off three new Shepards recently, all starting in ME2 with gibbed saves. Needed a Sentinel and an Adept to have played all classes, and trying out a no-cloak Infiltrator. Haven't gotten far into any of them yet and I'll likely drop one or two.
