A True Pre-Order Bonus

This made me think to myself - wouldn't this be a great model for pre-orders going forward? Instead of promoting in game gear content, silly trinkets or the honor to stand in line at midnight to make a purchase, what if more developers worked to make the gamer feel they have bettered the real world while they ensure they can save a fictional one as soon as humanly possible?
I, personally, usually find it very easy to turn down the various knick knacks or gear that is obsolete within five hours of the game when offered a pre-order. But I think, for me personally, a tag about a charity group benefiting from me getting a game a little earlier would be a very easy sell.
What does everyone else think? Would you want to see a charity donation as a pre-order incentive for DA:I?

On its own? I'm not against the practice, but honestly that's not really going to compel me to make a purchase. It might help if I was already thinking of buying the game anyway, but I'm not gonna spend $80+ just because a portion of that would go to a charity. If I was inclined to donate to that charity, I could just donate directly to said charity and save the rest of my money.
And it would also heavily depend on what organization they're supporting.
Also, why only for pre-orders and not for every copy sold? And why only for this game and not all of their products?
I mean, this isn't an impulse buy, like a pen or a cute little badge. Games are expensive. And if all I really want is to give a dollar to Greenpeace or the Cancer Research Council, I can just... do that. In fact, I could give all the dollars that I would've spent on video games instead.
Then I would feel literally 500 times better than I would from just buying a video game that donates a dollar from each purchase.

I'm going to pre-order anyway when we hear about the Collectors edition, but i am always behind large companies giving to a worthy cause, EA is famous for it as well. At least they should be if people could look past the whole "omagird EA worst company NA" because they are ****** idiots who have no grip on reality, look up Rupert Murdoch for illegitimate business practices, or the things BP and other organisations do to the environment for profit. That was an odd tangent but hey.

Also, lol. Can't you just picture the volcanic eruption of sheer hatred that would cover these forums if BioWare decided to throw financial support behind an environmental organization or a gay rights group?

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I would buy a limited edition pre-order for any game I planned to get if 100% of what I paid above and beyond the cost of the vanilla game went to charity.

Meh. I donate to charities on my own, I don't need a game to coerce me into doing it. If I preorder a game I want cool stuff that is game related. If I donate to charity I do it to help people and animals, not to have a game pat me on the head. ![]()

I have to disagree. Donating money based on pre-order is a rather strange idea. I wouldn't support the idea even it was just for any regular purchase of the game. My thinking is that a person who donates to charity is going to donate to charity. If you really want to donate your money then you should just go do it rather than have a game's pre-order dictate what you give. Secondly the charity may not be one you support, I for one would be turned off from pre-ordering DA:I if they were giving money to the Salvation Army because of their Anti-LGBT policies.
If Bioware want to do something revolving around charity then perhaps they should do what EPIC did a few years ago and set up some events revolving around charity by using their multiplayer. That way people have fun, awareness and money is raised, and (in the case of what EPIC did) players get some in-game bonuses.
