I suspect that re-entry would have likely cooked him, regardless of a barrier or not. Aside from that, an ample supply of O2 from point A to point B would have been an issue as well. His suit was toast and he didn't even have a rebreather helmet at that point. I could see where the use of a barrier may have helped in the initial explosion following his/her choice of destroy, however.

Whatever the case may be, I imagine Earth will be nigh-unapproachable for many, many years to come after that ludicrous!huge space battle.

I really doubt that. You should probably double check on how big a planet actually is. Very, very big.

The fact that non-biotic Shepards get the same scene tells us biotics had no role in his/her survival.

What I don't get is this assumption that the breath scene takes place on Earth.

Very true. In addition, how would Shepard have made it back to earth in the first place? In many ways, it would be more logical to assume that the breath scene would have occurred on the Citadel.

Given Shep lost all access to his/her powers due to the magic kryptonite properties of harbinger's declothing beam I doubt bionics came into play in his/her survival later on.

You already had to keep your kinetic barriers up when approaching Earth.

Anyway, it's not clear that anything besides the Citadel was in orbit during the battle. While the Citadel and Shepard wouldn't fall to Earth, dead Reapers probably would.(Ship wreckage would mostly miss the planet unless the ship was moving slowly.) Eezo contamination would be a problem.

Ok, I'm sorry everyone because my memory failed me. After seeing much debate, I rewatched the breathing scene. It's been a while since the last time I saw the breathing ending and I heard from somewhere that the breathing scene took place on Earth so I just assumed that. After watching the scene, I can see how it can actually still be on the crucible. So, I will end this topic and say that  I'll disagree with my previous assumption of Shepard falling to Earth. I now believe that for the Destroy ending he might still be on the damaged crucible.
