Sorry for posting this again as I did this in the DA:O forum, but this had me thinking that I probably should have posted it here in the first place.

I started another run of DA:O and will go through all DLC and then (very fast) through DA2 to carry-over into DA:I, just in case I get it. I played through the Soldier's Peak DLC and I listened to all of the dialogue so far up to when I got to the part where Avernus orders a retreat in the flashback, as he discovers the Abominations are no longer controlled by him that he summoned through blood magic. I began to ponder if this instance may carry over into DA:I, as an effect on the "Tear in the Veil" in DA:I.

At the end of that DLC, if I didn't kill him, he makes a remark (paraphrasing) that he's near a discovery to making wardens more powerful without dying from the effects of the taint and will call on the warden when (and if) that discovery comes. I made a video, of the first encounter with Avernus, of the most relevant parts of what he says regarding the DS and the demons.

Anyhow, thoughts? Does this or aspects of it possibly carry-over, since the "Tear in the Veil" is the main premise in DA:I?

To be honest it is very hard to say it happens a lot around wardens that we don't know and it seems that wardens can be our enemy in inquisition. After all corry that can/could control wardens is free perhaps avernus research will prevent that as warden gets control over own taint because of that as he says. Hard to say but i doubt that will help with veil problem.

I really wasn't projecting that this could be an aid to the veil problem, only that aspects of this may be part of it.

I guess you'd have to play Soldier's Peak or read the codex of Avernus' Notes. I am not trying to pin any certain aspect of what I am suggesting, only that maybe something within the tear in the veil could be part of this or that this may be part of the tear, causal effects so to speak as one aspect. I was really just trying to elicit thoughts, nothing more.

His research enables you to get a potion in DA2, wounded coast, that give you attribute points.  But beyond that who knows.

There's some really dramatic message about what he discovered about the taint, too.

It certainly is a possibility. On a leak it was said that red templars seek to enter the black city. On trailers we see red templars and their behemoths while the inquisitor is invading a gray warden fortress.

I can maybe see some gray wardens seeking to benefit from the fade tears.

Afterall, the taint did originate from the fade/black city.

I hoping his research has led to more powerful Wardens and stopping the taint from killing the Wardens.

I am pretty sure there are other wardens -past and current- that are researching the taint as well. I am guessing avernus was able to advance further due to uninterrupted isolation for hundreds of years.

Don't quote me on this but somebody did say there was an eluvian in soldiers peak.

If Avernus was told to continue with his research ethically...
The limitations put upon my research have greatly hampered progress. With just a few subjects, I could test certain critical hypotheses. However, the information sent about the Architect has proven invaluable to my efforts, and I am pleased to report limited success. As the Architect surmised, considerable untapped power exists within Grey Warden blood. When properly prepared, its effects can be remarkable.

But my research has also revealed some alarming implications, which I've attached in the old Acanthan cipher. I urge you to send this to the First Warden at once.

I will conduct further tests as long as I'm able. My documentation is very thorough—if time finally claims me, others may follow in my footsteps.

If Avernus could continue without restrictions...
The last shipment was quite helpful for my research, Commander. If you could double the supply next time, it would prove most efficacious. Additionally, the information regarding the Architect has proven invaluable—we have made several breakthroughs recently. As the Architect surmised, considerable untapped power exists within Grey Warden blood. When properly prepared, its effects can be remarkable.

I wonder what these "alarming implications" may be?

By using the taint does it mean they turn into ghouls/darkspawn at a much faster rate?
Or are they somehow feeding off the energy from the black city or the old gods?

I killed everything in that tower for good measure but I'd love for something about Soldiers Peak to come back to bite players.

I think I'd be more interested in Avernus's research in the taint than anything else...

I wouldn't doubt at the time of DA2 the writers had the 'alarming implications' being TBD.  They'll address (invent) it later if/when the story needs it.

My assumption has always been that he just discovered that the Wardens can be taken over by the Magister-type darkspawn like Corypheus. Or perhaps he discovered something far more fundamental entirely, but what that would be I can only guess.

Random note, the portrait of the bearded man in the first room looks a lot like the Inquisitions Warden.
