I ride english myself. My instructor and I laugh as we are not typical 'in the ring' riders. Of course, we do a lot of that to learn concepts but I love trail riding as I'm in the mountains. She thinks it's hilarious that we are out in the woods on crazy terrain riding in english saddles rather than western! I wanted to learn english first as it can be a bit more difficult. After riding english for so long, the bulk of a western saddle makes me feel like I'm in a giant diaper when I ride. lol When I started out, I just wore jeans and a tee but quickly learned the benefit of riding breeches. (Grippy, comfortable and easier to move in while riding). And, I gotta' admit, I love the style.

Your pony sounds like a fiesty one! She wanted to be free, eh!

Yeah, that would be funny, but those two girls I mentioned rode trails with the rest of us the same as you did. :)  There were parts of the trail that opened up and galloped in. I could understand the clothing being more comfortable since they are riding outfits, to me they looked a bit tight though. Western is the common use and doesnt require much for a person versus the english style which seems to require a bit more to it. This is just watching how those two ride compared to others.

Yeah, she wanted to roam outside to the golf course, not like she had food or anything already to graze, that green looked tastier I suppose. :)  I dont like the fact there was a golf course near the stables. The horses wanted that grass over their own.

Western is definatly good for a lot of people, especially casual riders. You have to try to actually fall off on one of those. My husband loves western as he finds the saddle to be a bit more comfortable on his, ehem, male parts. I just wanted to be able to go back and forth as needed. My english skills transfer really well to western. Going from western to english can be a bit of an adjustment. I'm moving overseas to the desert at the end of the month though. I won't have my mountains to ride in. heh, I guess I'll have to get out of the rings over there and see what desert riding is all about. I wonder if a horse can climb sand dunes.

ha, Your pony followed the old saying of the 'grass is greener.....'. Her solution was to just kick down the offending fence, lol.

aTigerslunch -  I had a pony too.  Bunny, she would jump over everything in her way. :D

Another horse rider here.  Western style riding and usually just wore jeans and a sweater or shirt.  Spent every summer and weekends with my grandparents who had a farm and horses.  My grandfather had been a hobo and a ranch hand when he was young and by the time I came along he sold real-estate and had a place with cows and horses.  I used to practice barrel racing, just for fun.  Haven't been riding in years. But great memories.

One of the things I have always liked about BioWare is their female characters.  OK  Jade Empire, Dawn Star, drove me crazy but she was still a good character and there was Silk Fox to balance her out.

:)

Maia, horses should be able to if you let them. A Yeah, that was her solution. :) she helped others escape more than once. Got to admit, watching horses graze off a golf course is sweet to watch but a pain to stop. :)

Mopotter, my quarterhorse was a rodeo horse when he was younger before I got him. I do miss being around horses from time to time but its been a long while since I have.

lol, yeah, I'd probably be trying to lure them away by rattling a bucket of grain. Usually works on hard to catch horses.

Thought I responded apperently my phone led it away from me.

@maia
Yeah, have used grain but one was stubborn. She doesn't like men. I rode her once and was thrown off when got to a clearing. She was a pinto, and quite skittish.
