It's entirely possible that we'll see something of a skirt in some of the armour, if DA2 is any indication.  Granted, this example is still a mage outfit, but a similar half-skirt design could easily work for heavier armour.

Will future armours provide protection for the left arm?

I dread to think what might happen should it get slashed.

The game considers both to be clothing. So there is no problem with them beeing revealing.

Cassandra's outfit in Inquisition has that.

I don't mind a variety, provided that male characters also have a variety. I suppose it can be reflective of your character's personality if one chooses the more feminine style of armour (as shown in the OP) or heavy armour.

I don't think heels should be an option though. It would have been silly enough on Hawke, who stayed in Kirkwall pretty much all the time. It would be crazy for someone intended to tromp through the wilderness as well as fight.

Vivienne seems to be going with this BUT thats part of her character and persona, she'd prefer to go into battle looking fabulous than wearing armor, she doesnt represent all females in the DA universe. Cassandras attire is perfect in my opinion, gender neutral.

So in other words....

tumblr_m0v7tftk1h1r2zpwv.gif

Plus it makes sense with Vivienne (well as much sense as mage outfits do in the DA frnachise) since she is a mage and for some bizarre reason, mages wear the least battle-ready clothes in the game.

Sure makes the characters more sexual, but i want  my warrior women to be able to move on the battlefield, not get their heels stuck in the mud.

Wouldnt getting stuck in the mud make the battles that more interesting?

"Well, im stuck."

"Vivienne, why do you insist on wearing those infernal things?"

"Cause? You never know when we come across one of those splendid Balls going on in another castle."

"Fine!" ....mutters.....

Well i am not against revealing outfits or gratuitous cleavage or tights pants shots. i am a man after all.

but to be honest , whilst i don't mind fantasy Armour that would not really work, it still should be covering what a proper Armour should do. so for warrior , no boob , no open midriff, no mail/plate bikini

fluffy mail skirt or  mail cyclist shorts in mail are of historical for plate so ....

mage or rogue can probably get away with more in that respect but it should be the same concept for both genders.

For mage, we can assume that  it is exactly the point she is making

To be honest if you look at medieval clothing, it is not that gratuitous  it is a class statement.

Hose should super-tight especially if they are made in stuff like flannel and boots once you have fasten them (staples or buckle). if you stop the hose before the knee (making them a sort of long braie they can even be tighter).

ie you can go hunting or travel with that sort of long braies and a pair of estiveaux (high righting tight boots worn in the summer)

if that does not work try

Yep, I was just trying to be funny. :)

Mages could get away with wearing clothing that is less battle ready easily since they are not frontline. Though I would prefer equal rights for each gender in that aspect.

Heels on combat uniforms are super-dumb. I remember laughing when watching Kate Beckinsale trying to run in high-heeled boots during Van Helsing.

I'm a little more forgiving when it comes to mages, because they basically attack at range anyway.

Personally, I don't like the idea of heels in combat situations.  I can't even walk in high heels in real life, and I can't imagine trying to run, or fight, wearing them.  It might, maybe, possibly, be okay for a mage who stays in the back.  Otherwise... no.  Just... no.

Second... skirts.  Chainmail or otherwise, skirts and dresses are a poor choice for combat, unless they're reaaaally short, in which case they don't really provide any protection.  The reason for this is that all that loose material could tangle and trip you up, or hobble you if it weren't loose enough, or worse, your enemy could use it to get a grip on you and knock you down and then you're done.  Granted, Dragon Age is a game and not reality, so I wouldn't mind the option being there.  But, it's not an option I would use personally.  It's one of the reasons I'm all for not forcing mages to use robes--robes and dresses hinder mobility.

Third... Circlets/tiaras?  Those would be fine for mages, but I wouldn't want to replace a full helmet with one as a rogue or a warrior.  The "hide helmet" option, if present, might serve for those who want to see their character's pretty/handsome face.

Even the Inquisitor's half-coat (or whatever that thing is) could present a hazard in real-world combat.

But, this being a game and not reality, again, I'd be fine for the option of circlets and skirts being available.  I will, however, argue vehemently against heels on the battlefield.  I'm sure there are some people who can run/fight/etc. in high heels like it's second nature to them, but most of us can't.  The fact that most people can't, makes it look silly to have my character run around in heels.  Not only that but heels are there to show off the leg, which, yes, goes back into making female characters more about being eye candy than fleshed-out characters.

For me, personally, gender-neutral armor is a wonderful thing, and I don't need or want to be pretty in combat--armor looks the way it does for a reason, namely to protect the wearer.  Cute/pretty armor may be fine for parades and the like, but it's not actually very protective.  I would rather there be out-of-combat/in-town clothing that I could put my Inquisitor (or other protagonist) in that might suit whatever prettying-up desires I might have.  Remember the clothing you could find in DA:O?

Men wore heels for the majority of their existence, so I don't agree with the last statement.

Men wore heels for the majority of their existence, so I don't agree with the last statement.

And they wore them then for the same reason women do now:  to show off their legs.  Regardless anything more than a small heel to hold your foot in the stirrup on a horse would be difficult to move around in (for most people--again, I acknowledge that there are some people in existence whose superior balance and poor orthopedic health from wearing heels all the time enable them to do just about anything in high heels and not trip, and that goes for both men and women) would be kind of ridiculous...

But then I speak as a woman who doesn't like any kind of heel on anything that isn't a boot, and even then it's the small, riding-boot sized heel.

Im not sure if the heel of a combat boot is a heel, more like a wedge that someone else commented earlier. That is fine as it helps traction. But high heels in combat would look too funny to me.

There are combat armors that are skirt only, Romans are prime example of this. There are also chain shirts that are long, draped down but not long enough to be a skirt. They do have their weakness in those aspects. Also those are plausible but I wouldnt want them myself.

I know the point is not wanting another Tera or whatever else was mentioned here in DA:I.

"Hey, did you see where my clothes went?"

I wore heels every day for 2 years and my feet like...morphed into a different shape? I was very comfortable in heels by that point but flat shoes made me lose my balance and they hurt my feet. Kind of like people who have been at sea a long time suddenly coming to shore lol.

As for the topic, I wouldn't put my warrior in heels (especially since that heavy armor would probably nail them into the ground like a railroad spike) though I don't mind that being one option of several for people who like it. I think mages should have the option to wear whatever ridiculous, non practical flamboyant things ever. Can't have Vivienne showing us up lol! I just want a variety of looks and armors for all classes. Also I like tiaras and headbands, I don't care if they're practical XD

Yeah, that's what I meant by poor orthopedic health... if you wear heels too often, they do horrible things to your back, change the shape of your feet, etc.  But the trade-off is you then begin to be able to do just about anything in heels, though I still wouldn't recommend doing any mountain-climbing while wearing them... Hence why I don't want them on my Inquisitor.  Outside of combat, in cities, etc. they would be fine, but out in the field they're a no-go from me.  Heels like that would just get caught on something, stuck in mud, trip you up in sand, etc.

Yeah, heck no to hiking/etc...in heels! Just walking across grass or dirt is a struggle since stilettos will sink all the way in to the ground >_<

Wearing heels causes your calf muscles to shorten, as if contracted. This can lead to all sorts of problems, like pain when walking in regular shoes or barefoot or a burning sensation on the soles of your feet in the morning.

Fun fact, for every inch of 'heel' added, your body is getting the equivalent of getting pitched forward ten degrees. Two inch heel, twenty degress. Three inch, thirty. You get the idea. In order to stand straight, your body has to do a crapton of compensating. This leads to all sorts of issues, usually in the legs, hip joints, and shoulders/neck.

They really should only be worn for short periods where you are being fancy ^_^ the job I had (jewelry store) forced you to wear them and you don't get to sit down :crying:

I don't know. I don't even think mages wearing that kind of crap makes sense? I mean what if they're shot at from a distance with arrows before they've gotten a protective barrier up. What if they're suddenly attacked by a wolf from behind. Etc.

I hate this enormous clothing difference between mages and rogues/warriors. Like... mages are still in combat

I'd love to have a circlet.  I don't think I've had a character who has worn a circlet since .... NWN2 (ok, not a BW game, but you get the point)?  Oy.  But should that be part of the helmet or just the hair?  I always use the Helmets Off option because while practically, one should have headgear while in battle, I think a game loses a lot of its personalization.  Instead of being my hero (with unique face/hair) or a companion, it's just another tin can.  That's why the head and face are so important to me.

Mages should probably wear armor similar to a rogue.  Light enough to move around, but still protective.
