Regarding this topic, I'm of the school of thought "artistic license has to end where function would be adversely affected". There are genres where "form over function" is an accepted design feature, and that's ok, too, but classic fantasy stories that take themselves somewhat seriously are usually not of that kind. That includes DA.
So I'm all for our female characters and companions looking good in their armor (as well as the men, but that has never been a problem), but there are some things that forbid themselves. Here's a list of such things which usually appear even in art that avoids open sexualizing:
The greatest offender: heels. I always feel like banging my head against the next wall when I see those on what's supposed to be a combat outfit.
Next offender: uncontained long hair. Having helmets that make the hair vanish from the models actually makes sense, and that we usually don't have long hair on women in games at all might be regrettable in general but because of that we don't run into the "long hair in battle" issue and that's good. Circlets are acceptable for a skirmisher type but in addition to that, any hair that would be long if uncontained has to be plaited and rolled up or something similar.
If there is a separate civilian outfit for a character, long hair can be part of that, but not the adventuring outfit.
Next: ankle-length skirts (including mage robes). Among other things, a recipe for stumbling at the worst possible time. Not just fighters, but any adventurer-type should avoid them since they're liable to pick up mud on top of their impracticalness for running.
There are more examples, but these are the main features I would NOT like to see on female protagonists and companions.
