Why do so many want to turn Gold Into Silver/Bronze difficulty?

You'd think the better folks get at the game the more they'd handicap themselves? But no, it's the complete opposite is what I always usually see. Really a shame. Want a quick story example? Here;

- Once I overhear a chat where one guy goes; "Man, Gold is so boring and stupid easy to me now."

- I go; "You're playing the KroLord against Geth with an uber tank setup and weapons and you expect a challenge?! Try it with a weaker kit and with weaker weapons & consumables."

- He goes; "No, I can say the same for any kit. Really."

For the next game them 2 friends propose to do an all Volus Vanguard team. But the other guy added "But if we're going to do that, we have to use high level consumables." To which the main guy replies "Oh yeah! But of course!" I lol to myself but say nothing. I don't even think they used shittier weapons either.

Anywho, short story short is I had to solo at least 2 or 3 waves. And in one of them they both went down like right at the, plus the other pug in that game was of no skill either and of course went down just as much as them. They really did very terrible. Going down all the freaking time. At the end of it all, I say nothing of the "So you guys were full of BS after all?" sort of thing line, and just left saying politely saying "Bye."

Now I'm not saying I'm all that good or anything either, but I do like to play with all weapons and don't usually go for super cheese setups. Only just now I've started using above level 1 consumables for Gold + more often using weapons like the Carrier & Crutch-cane since I'm promoting and don't want to feel like I'm carrying others down being lower level.

This is also a reason why I almost always pug with randoms and am not scared when I see so crazy weak setups or overall playtime players, because these are the real interesting games. And no, I don't go out of my way to score ****** like crazy either, nor is scoring ever my focus.

So yeah, I really don't get how folks can enjoy matches were everyone is very well setup and just melting everything with zero effort. This is not gaming to me. And I now wish that BioWare can maybe do something about it for ME4mp that rewards handicapping yourself a bit or something?

Pretty much.

That's why I love the challenge system.. keeps my using different weapons/kits all the time. ROFLstomping and min/max is pretty boring.. but fun IS subjective. Some people hate challenging themselves and only value how much they can break the game by designing the most OP setups imaginable.. like Zae.

I agree with the OP.

I love the challenge of making perceived weak set-ups work.

Was in a game last week where a GI-Jav turned up. Very good player and I was about to send a friend request until the double prime waves started and all he did was just nuke spawns.

Where's the fun in that?  He went from hero to zero in record time.

I hate Gold because everything is an annoying spam of something, whether it's Banshees for Reapers, Phantoms for Cerberus, Captians & Seeker Swarms for Collectors. Geth are ok because they're slow, and the only ranged units are the Geth Trooper and Geth Rocket Trooper, but it's rockets can be dodged fairly easily.

However Geth Platinum has too many Geth.

I prefer Platinum unless I'm trying something new or using an underpowered setup compared to the more common, more powerful builds.

I've never been bored with Gold, just annoyed at the wave composition for being alike. I've missiled lone Banshees before because they wouldn't stop chasing me. :?

To each their own. I like doing OP and insanely bad builds, just depends on what I feel like doing at the time. One game I will play a Javelin GI and kill anything moving, the next game I may play a no bloodlust, melee Vorcha Sentinel that only uses Flamer to stun enemies long enough for me to survive a fight.

You can't define fun for one person the same as you can for another, so the best bet is to find friends that share your mentality if you want a game to go the way you want it to. Also, sometimes people have bad games, especially if they go from EZ mode to something not so great. You can forget just how much a difference extra health/shields or wallhax can do for you to survive, so you don't alter playstyles and end up kissing the floor.

Edit: I feel that way about Platinum Argent. It is nothing but armor spam basically, there are far too few trooper level enemies to make whacky builds enjoyable without a full group of friends. That said, I don't absolutely hate Platinum, I just find the lack of variety to be different in that they just put in more bullet sponges. As I said above though, fun varies from person to person.

which was really embarrassing to watch because what he called "skill" I saw simplicity and cowardice.

I don't care what anyone says, spamming Cain Mines doesn't constitute skill, no matter how you put it.

I do accept that any Cain Mine build will be more powerful than a Bow build, but it's silly to compare builds solely on damage alone.

I don't know, I'm a little agree and disagree on this. While I try to not use a plat build on gold, cause it is really too easy (and a waste), I do use lvl 3 equipment. Unless of course I don't have any, then I use 2 or 1. I'll take a lvl 1 character into gold matches, but then load up the equipment.

I get what you're saying, and I think that I mix things up on gold and even platinum. I won't handicap myself too much, cause I have all of this equipment and I might as well use it. Another thing to consider is that sometimes the handicap is having pug teammates that don't look like they should play at that level.

At the end of the game, I'd like to feel like I contributed by a reasonable amount.

I feel the same way as the OP as far as how they prefer to treat the difficulty of the game, yet I find this thread kinda obnoxious.

But this game is easy, regardless of what you play (except for stupid stuff like no piercing shurikens on platinum)

And I have so much level 3/4 ammo that it is pointless for me to use anything lower as well. It isn't like using level 1 or 2's instead will really hurt a player that knows what they are doing, it just slightly slows down your killing time. I just find it kind of silly anyone would want someone else to purposely gimp themselves for their own enjoyment.

yes, but boss spam of different variety within the same game. Gold gets annoying when you vs the same wave composition with slight differences in the next wave.

How is it different? It's still the same 4 enemy factions.

Gold is infinitely more fun. It allows you to try different builds, weapons, melee etc. Platinum just doesn't allow you to. Way too much boss spam to have fun. Going into a UUG game, I know that the chance of a banshee chasing me all over the map or geth stunlocking me is 1/4. In UUP, that probability is 1.0 and I simply don't like it.

I do like soloing/duoing platinum because I use good weapons anyway. But playing platinum on a regular basis is the opposite of fun for me.

I often use powerful kits/weapons and my best consumables on gold.  Why?  Two reasons.

1.  I'm not good enough to carry the match if I need to with a lot of other kits.

2.  Sometimes its fun to just get out there and kill stuff as fast as you can.

All 3 enemy factions put together, 4 if it's Collectors, naturally you will get variety.

Reminds me of the Armax Arsenal Arena options to add handicaps and buffers, but at the cost of your score output. Could do the same but for credits in MP.

I'd love to play some games with no Medi-Gel, or something.

We're complete opposites. :3

I like pugging Platinum with any of my builds, and I don't really care much for soloing.

It really doesn't bother me if I get a "mission failed" when pugging, as long as I knew that I did my best I'm content. ^_^

More like the same thing every game, with the numbers/order switched around depending on the 'starting' faction.. and a metric chit-ton of armor. Armor armor armor, shields, barriers, more armor. Occasionally there are some health targets sprinkled in.. maybe 1/3 of the wave budget.. and TOO MANY SQUALLING BANSHEES!

I just play what i want really.Typically gold or plat i dont even remember the last time i played bronze or silver. Mustve been around the the first year the game came out. What i hate is people that brag about how they out scored everyone or carried the whole team but were using the most cheasiest kits and weapons.
