It isn't until you've nerfed and buffed the enemies, that you'll realise just how good a job bioware did, really.
The game presents enough of a challenge, yet is easy enough to appeal to the majority. It could have easily have been one extreme or the other, instead of the happy mid ground we have.

You get variety wave to wave but not game to game. No matter which of the original 3 factions you're against you'll always have to deal with primes, atlases, banshees, pyros, hunters, ravagers, brutes, engineers, guardians and phantoms. That's one of the reasons I don't find playing Platinum for several consecutive games to be as fun as Gold.

Maybe it's because I've been playing so long, but the wave compositions don't change on platinum. They stay exactly the same. My point is that complaining that one difficulty is too much of a "spam" is kind of silly.
they don't, I'm saying that the wave compositions on platinum are vastly different each wave when compared to gold where each wave is very similar (the late waves), it feels as like it's an enemy spam of that particular faction.
basically my reasoning is, a spam of various bosses is much less annoying than a spam of the same boss.

Well seeing as there is no mixed factions on Gold, I would hope that it feels like an enemy spam of that particular faction. 
Nothing wrong with someone preferring one thing over the other. I like the mixed factions idea, but dislike that it is mostly just bosses all over. Various trooper level enemies would have been fun to deal with IMO (kind of like wave 7 I think of Cerberus Plat).

Seems like something I came late for. There was this challenge a while back I think was called the Devil's Challenge, which is where I got the name from. Haven't heard anyone else call it that, myself. If he was a big Avenger fan, he's got my kudos.
The weakest I went today was when I apparently inadvertently forgot to put consumables on the TGI w/ GPR. Still did ok vs mooks though, not so hot v armor obviously.
Otherwise, I am not usually too keen on playing annoying setups when I am hopping around random games. For instance, a couple of games prior I had the pleasure of finishing up several waves of Condor - Geth with TGI w/ Phaeston (a pattern... I was grinding Commando waves). When you start talking about absurd nonsense like Level 1 Volus w/ Shuriken it is only sort of fun if you are in a premade with friends.
My limit for random games is common weapons, not really terrible character + common crap weapon. At some point it is also a little inconsiderate to the rest of the team to take a complete waste of space configuration since even if you aren't dying you aren't going to do all that great of damage.
Just read the first page a bit. Some people get it, some don't.
I'll just add one more thing for now. If you do have plenty of high level equipment and you want to use it for Gold instead of Plat, you don't need to use it for the more powerful dps weapon and on a kit that don't need much extra help in high level consumables or even one where you're very familiar with. Very simple concept to understand. It's just that you either want to totally melt everything or you don't. That's were it is. Not, "Oh, but I got them, so I might as well use them." As in, if you share my idea of what makes games fun, then you get what I'm saying, if not, well, check my next paragraph.

It was in the early days of Platinum. Good friend of mine named Devilgood and this troll named Bahroo came up with doing Reapers/London/Plat with Hsols using Avengers, Disruptor ammo, no grenades spec. By today's standard, this is nothing, but back then it was some real deal epeen. Those two, myself and Kocka did it.. and posted a video. This was before the Concussive Shot overhaul too.
