With the crisis engulfing so much of Thedas, it's likely that all the companions and npcs from the old games will be affected by it in some way. Not that I expect too many of our old companions to actually appear in the game, but do you think we will learn about what happened to them in the chaos after the end end of the last game? At least three out of four Origins love interests are coming back and so is at least one companion from DA2. And in DA 2 itself we learned about what everyone but Morrigan was doing in the meantime. And her story was always on hold. Do you think we'll learn the same in Inquisition?

We're supposedly going to learn what happened to Hawke right? So what about his or her love interest and siblings? Shouldn't they be at least sort of tied together? Bethany is my favorite character from the second game, but it's hard for me to imagine her actually showing up because her appearance is tied to Hawke's, but at the same time I'm really concerned about what happened to her after the incident at the Gallows.

I don't think Fenris' actor is recording any dialogue for the game but we can still learn about him through text or news or something.

Anders might not necessarily be an important character in the mage rebellion, but he is at least a historically important footnote. that deserves a mention, I think. And with Varric in the Inquisition, there's someone who might have a personal interest in knowing their fates too. And there was hints about Shale and stuff in Cassandra's book in DA 2 as well. Anyone have an idea if will that amount to anything?

If you're looking for a mention, I'm pretty sure everyone will be referenced in some way. ME3 did the same thing with many of the different NPCs. Whether or not this mention actually discloses anything, we can't say.

I expect historically important characters (e.g. Anders) to have more of a focus in this regard, but I wouldn't hold my breath for everyone to be equally relevant. The game already sounds like it will have tons of characters as it is.

We'll probably hear about past characters who aren't getting cameos in the Codex or something

The devs confirmed that Hawke's personal story (and those of his/her companions) are over and will not be finished in a game. :(
Maybe we'll get an offhand reference, but I'm not expecting much.

I'd be surprised if we didn't.

Well, for one, Fenris voice actor confirmed on twitter he wasn't called by Bioware, so there is one character we won't be seeing.

I'm surprised. He's got a powerful voice and has done VA for both Dragon Age games so far.

Always wanted him to voice a PC. Hopefully in ME4, I suppose.

This is actually a relief to me. I hope the Inquisitor's story ends completely in this game and doesn't carry on into the next.

I read this as 'family faces' so I don't know what I'm doing here but

I would imagine so, as Ares said I'm sure it'll be in the Codex if anything.

@ In Exile, I've heard that Bioware doesn't hire the same actors for major characters twice, so... :(  Probably not.

Well, since it seems Morrigan and Leliana are going to have large roles in DA:I, possibly having other voice actors than Claudia Black and Corrine Kempa is going to interesting. If there are new actors doing these voice-overs, it could a bit game breaking if they do not at least sound the part that they did in DA:O and DA2 (for Leliana). IMO, Claudia Black is irreplaceable as the voice for Morrigan.

I meant for different major characters. I may be wrong, but that's what I heard.

Well, we know we're seeing Alistair, Leliana and Varric so maybe for the ones it doesn't make sense to have hanging around we'll get the chance to ask them about older companions fates.

*talk to Varric*

*ask about the Champion*

*ask about Tevinter elf* *ask about blood mage elf* *ask about pirate queen*, etc

Considering, we didn't get the expansion pack becauseofalltheme3whining . I think they should cover it more than a mere codex mention.

Bioware used Sbarge for Kaiden and Carth. And they used Jen Hale for both Bastilla and Femshep. So they could use an NPC VA for the PC later on.

I hope so and I bet at least a mention or a reference will be made to tell us what happen to our old companions.

Mordin's voice actor was called by Bioware for ME3, but he had a larger role in ME3 than in ME2.

Which isn't to say that Fenris probably won't be in DAI, but the voice actor bit shouldn't be considered proof.

Well to many Cameos would be a ****** much, make Thedas feel to small.. Alot of the time it doesn't/wouldn't even make sense for the past companions to be in the places they show up Like Zevran in the far southern Free Marches to kill crows? And Alistair making personal visits to Kirkwall just to say hi and protect Kirkwall from...Something.
If it makes sense then sure, but yeah here's to hoping I don't find the Stenishok popping up in Orlais just for a random chat... Text would be preferable and easier to cover all companions, A codex of documents of the chantry tracking The Hero of Fereldens friends and allies in their attempts to find The Hero as was revealed at the end of DA2. Something like that could go easy, and cover all companions.

They use the same voice actors for major characters across IPs, but not i the same setting. They didn't use Sbarge as Kaiden AND another major character in ME for example.

You've got to admit they've got a problem with bringing back familiar faces in game in a meaningful way and yet respect choices made by people in previous games.   Look at all the moaning there was about Lelianna turning up if you killed her in DAO.   Alistair was okay because he had a cameo as king, or as a Warden, or as a drunk or not at all depending on what you did in DAO.   However, imagine the amount of work it would involve doing that for every major character from the previous two games and keeping everyone happy.    It is far more likely we will get an update on what happened to them from another NCP, for example Varric.

People we are more likely to see are those who were plot armoured, like Isabella, so even if you gave her to the Arishok, she escaped.    Also if Warden or Hawke are involved in the plot in some way, then their respective love interest might also feature.    I'd rather not have them involved at all, then be confronted by a totally different character than the one I remember (like with Anders from Awakening) or simply turning up dead, whether on screen or not.

However, I really would like to know the truth about the "disappearance" of both the Warden and Hawke.

I'm hoping we'll at least hear something about the Warden and Hawke.

Having them simply disappear is a bit disappointing, particular for the Warden, since it retcons some of their potential epilogues. I want to see the Warden eventually go back to doing whatever they were supposed to be doing in their DA:O epilogue.
