Fallout 3 has all those problems, but at least a beautiful world rich with contextual storytelling.

Not sure I'd use the word 'Beautiful' for any Fallout game. Bless this mess? I liked Fallout 3 a great deal, though the only wRPGs I'd touched at that point were virtually none found in RPGCodex's. Grew up on JRPGs, so contextual storytelling wasn't common.

Eh, just another list yelling "Things were better in my day!"

To be fair, Deus Ex:HR, Dark Souls, Divinity II, Witcher I&2, Alpha Protocol, Risen, and Mass Effect are recent/modern games, though some admittedly either have old-school design or are reboots of an older game.

Give me choices in cinematic dialog that lead to the same conclusion, cover based shooting and romances. Screw real rpgs.

A lot of renowned RPGs(mostly of the J persuasion) did essentially the same thing in terms of dialog leading to a railroad conclusion. Cover-Based Shooting? Romances are something I've never been a fan of(since they've yet to be realistically portrayed), but whatever.blackjack_zpsdda1154e.png

I was surprised that ME even came out given all the crap the trilogy gets. Obsidian games? I'm not surprised, though, they deserve the praise they get. AP had the looniest psychopath in the history of gaming xD

True. Somebody else's opinion would make it questionable too though, tbh. Assuming the games didn't line up with your frame of mind on good console RPGs. But yeah, don't know why people think Legend of Zelda is a RPG.

I just groaned at Nocturne being that high, imo it does not even come close to Persona 2,3 and 4, let alone being ranked higher then them.

Sometimes that's all you need to be classed under the 'RPG' genre. I've heard people call 'To the Moon' an RPG because it was made with the RPGMaker engine.
