With DAI looming I decided to replay DA2. It's been awhile and I forgot that simply reading Orsino's The Last Straw letter in Hawke's Mansion locks you into the end game. Of course, if you've forgotten, you won't remember this until heading to the Gallows to do anything other than the end game; eg. Aveline's quest.
And so here's this new thread, a reminder to my fellow gamers: DO NOT READ THE LETTER FROM ORSINO REGARDING THE LAST STRAW until such time when you want the game to end.
Probably won't be an issue for people that are super cautious with save files, I am to a point... unfortunately my three jump back points all have that letter read. Silly me, I guess.

The game autosaves every time you return to the mansion. Just reload that file.

The saves all have the quest active.

Reload from when you enter the mansion before reading the letter. It autosaves multiple times. Or did you play on even further than that?

Yeah, I played on for ages. I read the letter as soon as it was delivered. Just had to finish out Aveline's and Merrill's missions.
I should have remembered not to read it. Oh well.
The kicker was getting a message delivered after reading it, then the auto-save upon entering to read that message overrided the previous.
A totally avoidable scenario if you can remember it, on me that I didn't. Thought I'd put this here so others remember too.
:-) Thanks for trying to help.
