Naming your Qunari

So I'm really excited to roll my qunari femquisitor as my main playthrough once the game launches (as is hinted by my avatar  ), as I imagine are a lot of other people. If not as their main then as their alternate playthroughs.

Now, if you're anything like me then you like to roleplay in your roleplaying games . The first thing one does is to create their character and give them a lore appropriate name. And this is where i hit a snag in my otherwise perfect plan .

So the Qunari who follow the Qun get given names that pertain to their role in the Qun, eg. "Tallis", "Salit", "Sten", "Arishok" and so on.

Tal-Vashoth take up new names that don't have a particular meaning in the Qunlat (Qunari Language), eg. Armaas, Maraas, while others take up human names, eg. Jarvy, Tennant, Iron Bull.

Lastly there are the Vashoth, those born outside of the Qun. This is who the Inquisitor will be. Now we haven't met any Vashoth in previous games nor did they make and appearance in any of the books or comics. So, I pretty much have no clue how to go about naming my Inqui :(. Do they chose their names from the Qunlat like in the Qun or do they worship animistic deities like their ancestors did and draw their names form that? Or is it some third option?

Of course the Inquisitor could have been raised by human, elven or even dwarven parents, in which case s\he would be named accordingly to those cultures.

Anyways, I was hoping to get a discussion going and maybe figure something out. So if anyone out there has any ideas please stop by and share your thoughts. Also, I know Mr. Gaider is a busy guy but I've seen him way in on a couple of threads so I'm hoping that he'll find some time to give us some info on the Vashoth. *fingers crossed

And if no one else cares about this but me and sees this thread as rambling of a mad man, then please ignore me. I'll be here in the corner making up names

I know these feels!! I have no clue whatsoever to name my serabaas (seen:mage) Vashoth Inquisitor. I was actually almost considering giving her a name from the Qunlat, as a bit of Irony. Her parents maybe had a horrible sense of humor and named her Arvarad?

"Kost" which means peace in Qunlat.

The Inqunitor's surname is Adaar, which is most likely Qunlat, so our parents are probably qunari. Whether they fled the Qun or were born into a Vashoth society has yet to be established. I'll probably just use a Qunlat word as my name.

I can relate to your problem, I've already been thinking about names for possible Qunari Inquisitors as well.

Right now, my favorite Option for a female Qunari would be "Calhoun", maybe with alternated spelling. It's the surname of the badass female Sergeant from "Wreck-it-Ralph" and I had to think about her when searching for a name. It sounds exotic, but also somewhat French to me, so it would fit for a Vashoth living in Orlais imo. (you might think different about this, but to my German ears that's what it sounds like ;))

I have no idea how I'm gonna name my first male Qunari and of course that's exactly the character I plan on playing first (though I'll probably change my mind a whole lot of times until the game releases). Honestly I think Adaar would be a perfect name for him... probably the first character ever where I'd like the option to not choose a firstname, cause the surname itself sounds really good and it would fit with the lore since Qunari usually don't have two names. I wanted to give him a name that starts with "A" anyways, so... option to not choose a firstname, please? :P

the Qunari warrior would be the second or third character I intend to play. But I have already a name for her.

Zula.

Non very imaginative, I know. But when it was confirmed as a playable races the Qunari, both man and woman, I could't help but think a character like Zula of Conan the Barbarian.

And I think I would make her look as much as I can to Grace Jones. B)

I had seen the movie a lot of years ago, but her character is still in my mind. :)

I'm thinking Ataash (meaning glory) or Talan (truth), if parents speak Qunlat.  Qalaba if they don't (a cow known for its stupidity), because I could see someone going "That's a pretty name" and naming their child that.  XD

If we have human, elvish, or Dwarven parents, I'll probably have one playthrough as Qalaba and the rest as something else.  Probably something appropriate to the region we're reared in and the group we're raised by.

My female qunari rogue will probably be my second playthrough and I named her Jarnsaxa. It means "Iron sax" in ancient Norse, the sax(nothing to do with the musical instrument) also known as seax was a type of dagger. Her name is inspired by a warrior giantess, from Norse mythology.

I'm probably going to name my Vashoth f!Inquisitor either Ishikka or Cantara. I'm not really sure of the origins/meanings of the two names, but they just sound cool so whatever.

My thought process brought me to them picking a name specifically avoiding Gods, and Qunlat.

So my Rogue FemQuizitor will be named Liratha

My Inquisitor will be named Olla.
And she'll join the long list of Mage Heroes of the Dragon Age after the Warden Ozymandias Amell and the Champion of Kirkwall Cassandra Hawke.

I love this thread.  I also want to name my Vashoth Inquisitors with qunlat based names.  I am thinking of either Talan ("truth") or Kost ("peace") for my first Inquisitor, who will be a male qunari warrior.

I will probably want to make a female qunari at some point as well because it's the first time we can use one.  When I do that, she'll probably be either Hissra ("illusion") or Meraad ("the tide") and she'll be a mage.

I'll name mine Abubakar, after the sick Boko Haram leader in the news.

And then delete the character afterwards.
