I'd kill for a Trade-tongue-to-Qunlat dictionary for this.

In these type of situations I personaly find sticking to the default name provided in the character creator as the easiest solution when it comes to choosing a name.

There is a Qunlat dictionary on the official Dragon Age wiki if anyone is stuck for choice.

When in doubt, I'll keep clicking through a fantasy name generator until I find a name I like.

I think the only qualm I have about using Qunlat for a name is that we have so little of it, there are probably going to be thousands of people using the same names for their Inquisitors, which I know will bother me even if I never see them.

That said, the names/words I like are:

Anaan: Victory

Ka'dan: Heart (in this case she would have had very doting parents)

Kasaanda: A type of carnivorous flower (though it sounds way too close to Cassandra)

Saare: Dangerous

Anaan in particular is my favorite.

One of the names I use in RPGs for my characters is Kali. I think that'll suit my femquisitor, like Hindu goddess.

While I'll probably make up the names, but I'll more than likely use a few qunlat words for names, most of them sound a rather fitting, if not a little ironic.

Some of the names I'll probably use are:

Qunquisitor (Not sure why, but I like this more than Qunquizzy for some odd reason.)

Wrex

Cato

Atashi: Dragon (A rather fitting name for a mage, in my opinion)

Ash: To seek

Ashkaari: One who seeks

Meravas: So shall it be

Those are what I've come up with so far.

It really depends on the time and day I make the character because right now I might wanna give my female Qunari Mage a human name but when it comes to making my character I might be feeling like giving her a lore based name. If I just got done watching Anime I will probably than give her a Japanese name, but it really depends on my mood when I name the character. All I can plan out is what race my Inquisitor will be.

Like a few of you on here, I really like Asala for my F!Q!Inquisitor but I'm partial to Selene and Asteria as well (I have a thing for mythology and space-related stuff!). Although I really want to go with a name that is lore based but seeing that there's only a limited range of Qunlat words, I guess I'd just have to make one up.

Also, this generator is fantastic; http://donjon.bin.sh...sy/name/#common I definitely recommend it if you're in a pickle.

As for an M!Q!Inquisitor, I have no idea. I find it harder to come up with male names.

I don't know that I want to use the available Qunlat for my Inquisitor's name. Culturally-appropriate names irl tend to come from words in previous iterations of the language--ie, old or middle english. Or from religious texts that originate in another culture/language (the bible). You do get people named actual words in our language, but they're also considered to be very unusual names. I realize the Qunari call each other by their position when they're in the Qun, but the comics implied that even inside the Qun they have personal actual names and I'd think those are subject to similar trends.

So really I'd like a list of languages that influenced Bioware's creation of Qunlat, and then I'd pick from those.

Tal-Anaan < means  "true victory")

Tal-Kost <means "True Peace")

Tal-Asala<means "True Soul")

Or without the Tal part idk, I will most likley name her Asala if I cant find anything else!

I would think that calling my Qunari Femquisitor that I may create one day Dethrassi will be incredibly ironic. :P  And would fit her character quite well.

I know what you mean. What about combining words?  I think that would give us a few more options.  These probably aren't necessarily the most accurate translations, but they might give people some ideas.

Ari - Possibly "person" or "one" used as a prefix to denote leadership (such as Arishok), and I suspect is part of the word Arvaarad ("one who holds back evil") and Ashaari (one who seeks).

Arataash (one of glory), Arissala (one of dust), Arkas (one of the weapon), Arkost (one of peace), Arisaar (one who is dangerous)

Ash - To Seek

Ashaban (to seek the sea/seeker of the sea), Ashkost (to seek peace), Ashtalan (to seek truth)

I've got three names so far in my little pool of ideas, all taken from the Turkish language:

  • Bahadir - hero, warrior, brave
  • Serkan - leader, chief
  • Özge - other, different

Its not like our inquisitors will run into each other so i say why not, if it suits you then roll with it, no need to worry about others.

of course. it's just an observation. it's not like i think DA is an mmo :P

It's a good thing that you won't need to see what anyone else names their characters given that it's a single player game.

Why people care about what other people do in their games, I'll never know.....

I don't, rofl. like I said it was just an observation. it's just a shame we don't know more words in qunlat.

Correction. I plan to name my MALE Qunari one of those names.

nice change from all the male Tal's and Atashi's :P

I have a habit of naming my characters names that would generally be thought of as being best-suited to the opposite gender..

I've already decided that I'm not going with a lore friendly name.

My huge qunari dude is going to have a cutesy, non-threatening name ( like Miles or Louie ). He will have the smallest horns possible ( hopefully like the female qunari's small forehead horns in the concept art), and he will be mildly self-conscious about their small size, especially whenever he's around Iron Bull and his impressive pair.

In general, he will be the nicest of all my Inquisitors.

My Male Qunari will be my third play through after my main play through with human warrior Marcus Trevelyan and my human mage Calisfer whateverthemage'ssurnameis. I am certain Vashoth give their children human names or like Tal Vashoth names. I am naming my bad ass Warrior Qunari Kundar! The Great!

I usually lurk around here, but I have a Qunlat name list here, http://wandering-lan...52/qunlat-names if anyone needs it. It's not perfect, and I may not have everything, but I've tried to make as many combinations as possible.

I like Kata or Katara for a female Qunari. Works nice for a necromancer or even just as an Inquisitor (as enemies are sure to die...many of them).
