This might be a bit of an old or silly question, but why are higher members of the Circle of Magi called "enchanters"? I have kind of always wondered that. If we go strictly by lore, technically only dwarves and the Tranquil can imbue items with enchantments through lyrium. For everyone else, especially non-tranquil mages, it is very dangerous, potentially fatal. Which also explains why the Tranquil are, to an extent, an economic necessity for each circle, and raises questions whether mages are tranquilized because they are dangerous, or because the circle needs more Tranquil enchanting items. So, why are high-rank, powerful mages called enchanters when they clearly can't enchant anything? Maybe in the past they did try to enchant and those who survived proved powerful enough to be named leaders? It has always bugged me.

Yeah there is alot more to Enchanters than enchanting items. Lore wise that is, imbuing items with temporary boosts such as fire weapon spell for a sword to ignite as a landscaped for one battle is this. Also, controlling, taking control of monsters, people or whatever else is the Enchanters realm. Not meaning by summoning, basically a mind control effect. Enchanting a spell into a rock to make it explode is another, these are not permanent effects so doesnt cross into what Tranquil does. There are more that I'd have to look up, these are off top of my head.

Ok, thanks for the response :) So more like experts on "active" enchanting and basically enhancing equipment and even other spells? Yeah, sounds like with very high proficiency could be powerful :) If you can think of more examples please let us know, thanks for the response

I was referring to enchanters as in spell groups, which is what I thought was being asked.

Otherwise its just a positions title. First Enchanter is what I'm referring to here.

Those spells I listed would be combat related. During combat casting beneficial spells on party members basically.

Enchanting an item is stated "safe" for Tranquil to do.
