With DAI revisiting Ferelden, the way in which locations from DAO will (perhaps) be revisited will be fascinating.

Revisiting past locations is tricky.

The game engine has changed and time has changed.

Some places such as Denerim were burnt so a rebuilt locale is understandable.

But a revisit to Orzammar, Dwarves not being accustomed to changing things should look very familiar.

The hills of Redcliffe should look the same.

(assuming either or any location is revisited at all)

What would be most delicious would be to travel through an open or city area and then to happen across a location you recognise.

Do you have a hankering to go back to an old location, or is any location return going to be a disappointment?

Would you be disappointed if an old setting were retconned to look different?

If the Free Marches are visited, would you like to revisit Kirkwall?

There's a particular cave that would I'm sure bring back happy memories...  :D

I really hope we don't revisit a lot of locations. I want to see new parts of Thedas, not new renders of places I've already been to in DA:O.

I really, really do not want to revisit anything, unless it is necessary. While it would be nice to see the bland locales from DA:O re-done in the Frostbite engine, I would prefer to see new places.

I would say that I wish to revisit Kirkwall but apparently we are not going to the Free Marches in DA:I so that won't happen.

Personally I would like to revisit some of my old watering holes. Check out how things at the spoiled princess are since I was last there, or if Bella really did turn around the bar in Redcliffe.

I'd like to see brutal Orzammar politics again. Lets see another poor bastard get an axe to the chest.

With or without my Aeducan character there (I made a female dwarf.. I imagine she'd at least get a generic Paragon statue or something).

Ostagar. The Veil should be paper-thin there; I'd like to see the Inquisitor deal with a Fade Breach there....

They've said previously that DAI will be a blend of familiar and new places, so we'll likely see a fair amount of old area's and new ones that we haven't seen before. They haven't really said to much about which area's in Fereldan we'll go to but they did name drop redclife ( it's highly likely that the area in the December blog update was Redclife) and confirmed Alistair being in DAI and depending on what choice you make he could be king which makes denerim likely.

"It's a little bit of both," Darrah said. "You will meet characters of note who will join your inquisition. Maybe you pick up the lord of horse from Redcliff Village as an example, and then he gives you access to horses. But also, the inquisitor himself has the ability to close these [portals] that are opening across the world. You're the only one who has the ability to do that. As you do that, you're essentially stopping demons from spreading around. That's increasing the renown of the inquisition. And doing that is drawing people and resources to the inquisition. So that's strengthening your inquisition in a more meta way."

As for where I'd like to go, Orzamaar, Kar'Hirol, Amarthine or Vigels keep, Ostagar, Highever, the mages tower and town, along with the two above.

That's really disappointing news. Not the mechanic, but certainly the locations.

I wouldn't mind revisiting Highever, as all we saw of it was the castle in the Human Noble origin. I'm interested to see the Temple of Sacred Ashes again. And Frostback Mountains/Korcari Wilds are general enough that we could see those locales again. Otherwise I'd just like to see mentioned places we missed out on seeing in Origins. Like Gwaren, or Aeonar. Although I wouldn't say no to helping Lothering rebuild...

If the devs were making the game specifically for me, I would like to go to Denerim's Alienage again to see members of the Warden's family. But since they aren't, I really can't see any point in going to Denerim. Honestly, it's kind of a dull city without the succession crisis and the imminent threat of a darkspawn invasion.

The same goes for the Circle tower and Ostagar. What made these places interesting were the crises that drew the Warden to them. Ostagar in particular is just an empty ruin without any soliders or darkspawn to occupy it, and the Circle tower is just a tower when it's not being overrun by abominations.

Vigil's Keep and Amaranthine are slightly more interesting because, depending on the Warden's choices, either location can be a scorched ruin. But I can't really see the devs making two different versions of either place just for a stroll down memory lane, and in the absence of any major danger, neither place is all that compelling.

I wouldn't object to seeing Redcliffe or Orzammar because the Warden has a fair amount of agency there and so there's lots of opportunities for different cameos and such.

Of all possible past locations to re-visit, I would most like to see Kal'Hirol again. Sure, we've been there before, but during our first visit, it was a ruin overrun by darkspawn and haunted by ghosts. If the dwarves have indeed re-settled Kal'Hirol, it's essentially a totally different place. And all the benefits of visiting Orzammar effectively apply to Kal'Hirol, like dwarves mentioning the current king/the impact of the Anvil of the Void's discovery.

Man I'd really rather not go back to Ferelden. We are 3 bloody games in and we've barely explored 20% of the world of Thedas.

2 out of 9 countries so far! At this rate it will be DA15 before we explore everything

I don't know about you guys but I rather not wait for over 10 years for the DA series to wrap itself up.

Not saying to rush it or cut **** out but if the DA games can get to the point sooner rather than later that would be great. I don't think I could remain invested in the series if it's still going into the late 2020's.

I want to see how large of a fade sundering rips open involving the Aeonar. Just reading about that place makes me think of Bedlam + the Dreadfort.

In some sense, we're not revisiting any locations at all. With the new engine, and the new approach to level design, old areas will be familiar in only the most deliberate of ways.

Personally, I find it somewhat short-sighted to dismiss revisiting locations in DA:I. I'd be tickled green if we never even set foot in Orlais personally, what matters in Dragon Age: Inquisition is the experience given by playing Dragon Age: Inquisition, not the experience given by playing Dragon Age: Origins.

I would like to see redcliffe rehashed, it looked really sad and simple and it was supposed to be a major area in ferelden.... hell even denerim, especially the market place, looked sad....  If we do visit locations, i would like them to rehash them and maybe give a nod to a few previous places in said towns

Not really interested in revisiting. It's the first game that goes beyond one country's border. I would rather come across new places than see recycled stuff. Sure, wouldn't hurt if it's one or two spots, but more than that would be a waste.

I'm looking forward to visiting new locations, so the thought of revisiting areas from previous games aren't very appealing to me. Still, I keep an open mind about it, since other players want to revisit Denerim, Redcliffe, etc. I'm sure those locations will look so much better with the new engine and better textures, etc.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that we'll visit Kal-Sharok instead of Orzammar. Sooo curious to find out all the details about how their culture has developed during their isolation! :)

I'd like to see if Kirkwall is still the same, afterall we spent 10 years there and all that changed was the location of the door to the Ferelden shop.

I wouldn't have any issue with a little modernisation, but I would expect rivers, wells and significant buildings to be unchanged.

It would also be interesting to find some familiar faces in familiar places.

I wouldn't mind revisiting previous locations--simply to see how they have possibly changed, been rendered with the new engine and of course for nostalgia. But I agree that visiting newer locations and exploring DA world further is more appealing.

Eh, I'd rather revisit old locations if they are going to reflect meaningful consequences of the choices we've made in DAO/2. It is a good opportunity for Bioware to leverage more reactivity than what they could ever fit into a single game. But I wouldn't want to go back and feel like the game isn't reflecting my choices from previous games. If we go back, I would like to see some meaningful divergence and consequences.

If we are going back to Ferelden, I'd love to see Highever. I don't expect it of course, but it would be cool.

In DA:O you never really see Highever. All the action in the human noble origin story takes place in the castle.

Like someone else mentioned, I'd like to see Highever, my canon origins playthrough is as a fem Cousland, it would be nice to see where she came from rather than just the castle, I'd also like to see if that memorial Alistair mentioned putting up for Duncan is there, little things like that...

I'd like to see Lothering just to see how they rebuilt or if they did.  Also Orzammar but that's just because I absolutely love that place, by far my favorite location to play.  Other then those two I could do without any really, and I wouldn't be to upset if they weren't locations.

I would love to actually see Highever, not just the inside of a noble's estate but the whole area see where the human noble Warden hales from. I honestly wouldn't mind revisiting a lot of old locations just as long as enough new ones are in there as well.

Having said that i don't expect to see a lot of old places make a return, just because it's not their style. Mostly new with a dollop of the old just for garnish.

I don't care where the game takes us. I would totally appreciate some visual or thematic familiarity to places we've been taken to before, but that's not a must.
