According to this article the peace conference and primary veil tear take place at the temple of the Urn of Sacred Ashes.

"...when the head of the Chantry and the head of the Mage's faction they're going into the Temple of Sacred Ashes to this peace talk, and they're all killed..."

Now why would our inquisitor be in such a remote location? I'm thinking that the Inquisitor is a mercenary of some kind. perhaps they had to transport a prisoner there or act as a bodyguard for someone attending. what do you guys think?

I think that the Inquisitor is a relatively important member of whichever fraction they are aligned with, which will be decided by race/class.  Only because I'll just argh with the whole 'random nobody at the right place, right time' thing.  I want them to at least have some bearing on becoming a leader of a powerful organization.

I'm pretty sure it'll be different for each origin.

There could be all kinds of reasons for people to be there. The Dalish are probably there to ensure their mages are left alone. The Dwarves are probably there in the interest of keeping their lyrium trade going. The Vashoth might be a bodyguard or even a representative of one of the circles of magi since they're trained in the conventional circle-sanctioned magics we've seen so far. The humans go without saying. As for whether we'll be someone of importance or a nobody, that I don't know. I mean, we don't exactly know if House Cadesh is still a noble house of Orzammar but if they are it would make us seem important. Even with our magical glowing arm, it would make sense for our future Inquisitors to have some credentials for when they take up the title.

"I was a Senior Enchanter."
"I was a member of a noble house."

"I was First to the Keeper." Etc, etc.

Most likely it will be determined by race/class.

The Dalish could be there as part of a special delegation with some sort of message for the Divine or some such.

The Vashoth is more than likely a mercenary hired by one of the factions.

The Dwarf could be part of a delegation representing the interests of Orzammar/the merchant's guild. The Templars and the Chantry are the largest consumers of the lyrium trade afterall. They have an interest.

As for the human, I have no earthly idea.

Well, all the effort we went through to set up the Breach would have been wasted had we not been there to absorb the power it released.

Peace conferences are a great place to assassinate rival leaders.

Templar war aims:

1. assecuratio
2. satisfactio
3. 'the contentment of the troops'

I think the Inquisitor is just caught in the blast radius. I mean, uit kills thousands so it has to have some range.

I am going to assume my dwarf is there to sell everyone hotdogs until the game tells me otherwise.

The Dalish had probably set up camp nearby and were in the process of telling every shem around how many arrows they had trained on them.

The faction leaders just let them be because it was more pathetic than anything else, really.

This is my guess too. I think it will depend on the race choice. Dalish Inquisitor? Perhaps you are the leader of a clan. Qunari? You are someone of note sent to participate in the peace talks and represent the Qun... and so on...

well, you see negotiating peace is a very stressful thing. trying to get people who want to wipe each other off the map just to sit at the same table can take weeks. often far away from family and love ones. so sometimes one needs someone to help them... relax.

on the bightside our starting funds will be higher then normal.

The Qunari proto-Inquisitor isn't there to represent the Qun, because they're not Qunari in the religious sense. They live outside the Qun as a Vashoth.

Because we took a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

Honestly I think the Inquisitor is probably some sort of minor representative.. For the Dalish they might be a First to the Keeper or something...

I assume that every race( and some cases class) has its own, unique reason to be there.

Wither a tourist to the meeting, someone just passing through, or some sort of a guard.  Maybe Captain of the Guard but honestly I do not think we will be anyone of particular note.  Maybe though for the other races but I just get the sense that the Inquisitor may not be at the peace conference at all as sad as that would make me.

The latest video seems to indicate that Cass doesn't know who you are and suspects that you may even be behind the explosion when she arrives in the aftermath. If you were important than she would probably have an idea about who you are. I'm guessing you are just a relative nobody. Maybe, if it does happen at the places the ashes are, you live in or near the village of Haven (it's been 10+ years so even if the Warden killed everyone its likely there are new people there, especially with a holy site nearby) and are caught in the blast.

It makes some sense for you to be from there in my random speculation, there could be a Dalish clan traveling nearby at the time since they do that, travel around (maybe even for the meeting) and the other side of the mountains from the village is the Dales so crossing over the mountains could bring them past the village. You're a surface dwarf if my memory serves and the town and temple is relatively close to Orzammar so you may have moved there from the dwarf city when you left for whatever reason. As a Qunari if your parents wanted to get as far from the Qunari as possible you couldn't do much better than a small village in the mountains between Fereldan and Orlais. And a human can just be a villager, and a human mage could just be from the village and went home when the Circle fell apart.

Maybe, whoever you are, you're a village leader of some kind. Even as a dwarf or Qunari you could be important there for any number of reasons. Perhaps as a Qunari your family drove off some bandits that had plagued the village and so was accepted even though they were Qunari. Maybe the dwarf's family helped establish a strong trade house to accommodate all the pilgrims going to the shrine and boosted the village economy thus becoming important. The human could be the son or daughter of the person who rebuilt the village after the events of the fifth blight caused its destruction. The Dalish could be there for the meeting or they may have set up there for some other reason like how Merrile's clan set up near Kirkwall for 10 years, perhaps to study the shrine along side the chantry or to look for other ancient holy sites the elves may have built nearby, and so after all the time in close proximity there has been some trade and a bond has developed between the village and the Dalish and they respect each other.

This gives us a personal lose in the explosion too, if our home is destroyed it may spur us towards getting those responsible more than just, "doing what's right." It gives us another possible motive for someone to lead the Inquisition besides power (I want to lead a powerful group) and honor (saving the world), we can set out for revenge (for the deaths of people we know) which can be very motivating.

This is all baseless speculation of course that I just came up with off the top of my head, but it sounds cool to me. It might run the risk of being like losing a sibling in DA2 which didn't give us enough time to really connect with them, but I hope that if something like this does happen (they want us to feel emotions at the lose of people in the veil tear) they give us a good junk of time to get to know the NPCs around the event before hand.
