I'm pretty sure it'll be different for each origin.
There's only one Origin story. Background info on races will vary, but there'll be only one Origin Prologue.
I'd more wonder how they found the temple of the sacred ashes or would consider it important enough to go there if you killed genetivi and not the dragon
But since cassandra said thousands died in the blast it can be assumed either the rift was large enough that it stretched from there to a populated area (where you wouldn't need an explanation for your character being there) or your character was one of many people brought along to attend to the important people there, or heck, you were a traveling merchant who was going by and thought you'd try to peddle to all the servents of the rich holy people that are there.
I wonder if people like OP, also want someone to tell them the whole story in details before playing the game ? Why would you want to know the plot of the game before even playing it. I am dying to replay again Mass Effect series FOR THE FIRST time just to experience the amazing story and atmosphere again, let alone go to investigate the plot before playing the game.
My Qunari Inquisitor will be there to hand out mini Qun tome, Qun flyers, and cookies. Hey it's a big conference, perfect PR opportunity ![]()
As others have said, it will probably vary by race and class.
A Human might be either a Noble from Ferelden or the Free Marches, or (if a mage) a representative of the rebelled Circles.
A Dwarf might be a Merchant-Prince. The surface dwarves have a powerful interest in continuing trade (particularly in Lyrium) and wars are bad for business in that way.
The Dalish might be part of the talks, perhaps in an attempt to gain some additional rights, recognition or land. The Inquisitor could be a First to the Keeper, or an important clan leader.
The Qunari are the most mysterious, though the idea that they could be Mercenaries is a good one.
Peace conference?!?!?!?!? I thought I was going to a Peas conference! (My Inquisitors back story is that of a humble vegetable ....(or are peas just a lentil....is a lentil a vegetable...) farmer.
The Inquisitor is not necessarily at the Peace Conference. Cass says that thousands are dead so the explosion that killed the peace delegation could've been huge.
The Inquisitor could just be some random person who happens to be near by or they could be a guard or soldier brought along by someone else.
Ultimately I don't think it will really matter why the Inquisitor was there just that they were there.
Here's my thoughts, which are grounded in no actual evidence and are just simply conjecture (love that word):
Qunari of any class: likely representing the Vashoth point of view. There aren't many Qunari out there for grabs, so (s)he's likely a representative
Human mage: I think it's clear they'll be one of a few representatives of the mages, which is cool, because that means we start out as a rebel (I guess)
Human non-mage: Honestly, I don't know. What faction would they be part of? They can't just make us automatically templar or chantry, so maybe this one would be a mercenary, or perhaps a general of some army. Idk. I really don't want them to be a random, though.
Dwarf: Dwarf! (Kinda like the Qunari, probably a representative of their race)
Dalish: Dalish! (representative)
The Inquisitor is the new mayor of Haven. Don't ask how that works for half of the Inquisitors just deal with it.

Makes the most sense. I doubt the Inquisitor is a random passerby, people don't just hang out around a holy temple.
Because they had free food.
No idea but I hope it is not something silly like, they do not remember, the last thing they know was sleeping at home.
The Inquisitor has to deliver an ancient Tevinter artifact known as the Ray Sphere to the summit, and it blows up in his face, which just goes to show that registered post is probably the best way of delivering your McGuffins.
If anyone is to bring an object that causes danger to the world and cause untold deaths then Hawke has to be the one to do it, because that seems to be their purpose in life.

The other half were troubled and ended up in Thedas along with a race change. ![]()
Here's a more serious thought, what if Cassandra were to interrogate you as to why you were there and you're given options.
Example - Human Mage
Cass: "Why were you at the conference? "
Mage:
a) "I was part of the Circle representatives"
b ) "I was part of the mage alliance"
c) "I'm an apostate for hire"
Then everybody wins
Ooh, I hadn't thought of that! I quite like that idea. Perhaps this could establish your backstory?
ah, yes. similar to what Skyrim did but with more responsiveness from the story. I like that Idea.
For those in this thread who areas of yet unaware, Bioware has stated that the Inquisitor comes walking out of the veil tear caused by the explosion, and nobody knows how or why ( or who you are), including you. this leads some to think you may have been sent by the Maker.
Really?? Where did they say that? and does it extend to your backstory too? If so it kinda sucks to not have a past.

If this turns out to be a replay on Revan's story, I will have fits of rage and annoyance. Not that I didn't like that story in KotOR... but let's please not be the evil person who orchestrated a lot of deaths in order to rip open the Veil for our own nefarious ends... please...
I may likewise screech in anger if the blast killed the love of a companion's life that then turns around and is willing to romance me. We've come so far with the stories told since those days, so I want to have hope that some tropes are long gone.

I thought that was just "nobody knows how or why you were able to physically enter the fade" do you have a source for the unknown back story part?
