Why would Orlais scandalous whisper? They are one of the most welcoming of it.

Yeah. Orlais strikes me as the sort of place where same sex relations and other taboo things are acceptable. So yeah Gay men and Lesbians shouldn't be a problem there.

Same sex relations aren't really taboo in most of Thedas.
Any scandalous whispers among the nobles would more likely arise if on eof the dancers was a commoner.
Or worse, an elf!

There are some hilarious suggestions here but I would seriously love if the ball was a major turning point for any combination of Inquistor/love interest. Shy Inquisitors could be terrified of the event (but possibly forced into it for political reasons) and then either succeed gracefully and have a grand time with the companions/LI or it could be the worst dance of all time and the Inquisitor has to flee to the gardens and be talked down by companions/LI.
Boisterous/dance-friendly Inquisitors could sweep the floor and their LI off their feet or make political moves during partner switches...I don't know, I just think it would be such a great, unique event if there was a TON of scripting for it and a lot of positive or negative ramifications from the events of the night.
