I don't care if it possibly contradicts lore. I just want it, and I hopewe're given the option.
I mean, how do we know if somewhere in thedas, dark skinned elves don't exist anyway?

They do exist in game, so we'll likely see them again.

Why would it contradict lore?
Yes, I'm curious about this too. Did they forget Zevran? He has one of the darker tones. But there are many others.

Dark skinned Elves DO exist, we've seen them in the Dalish Camp.

Hell, the City Elf Warden is probably dark skinned. His/her mother is shown in Leliana's song.

Maybe they are referring to drow or dunmer esque 'dark skin,' rather than chocolate esque. Why would it contradict lore?

Some of DA2 elves have a drowish tone, I guess. Or it could be the funky lighting on Sundermount.

...What?
I mean, there are a fair few elves with darker skin tones in the games and other parts of the DA universe.
And the Warden (Dalish/Alienage) could the same varieties of skin tones as the dwarves and humans did. And to the best of my knowledge, there is nothing about how the elves appeared (save that they may have been taller?) in lore.
Personally I would love to have the some of the default heads include faces from various ethnic groups, African Asian, Native American etc. Our world is just so full of so many wonderful cultures, histories and looks that I want the chance to bring that rich diversity into the games main characters.

how are varied cultures and histories relevant to a fantasy setting, on a different planet, with different religions, sapient species, and political orders?
It's not like the option wasn't there before? We've been able to have dark skinned characters since DAO, and the elves don't have to break the lore to be dark skinned since we've seen elven NPCs with the darkest skintones available in the game o.O

Let's say that Ferelden remind of England. Orlay represent France. Antiva if I recall it right seems like Spain. Even characters have different speach manners - Dutch, French and British. So yes, varies earth cultures and histories affect fantasy world, why they should not affect default heads in character creation menu?
Those were obviously not elves but elven shaped chocolates possessed by demons. Like duuuh!!!

Ferelden is kind of mishmash of England and Scotland and old Britannia (the barbarian aspects). Antiva is Italy. I think Rivain might be based more on Spain.
I would assume darker skinned elves existed in the world of Thedas, despite the crappy rendering in the previous two games. I mean, if it's anything like our world, varried peoples of different structures based on the region they hail from, despite their race, would get darker and more robust in areas that are more equatorial/warmer whilst those closer to the caps would be significantly lighter.

She's not even the darkest skintone from DA:O, she's like third-darkest. So yeah we'll have em. Hopefully with a greater range and more realistic undertones.
Speaking of, I'd like to get to the point technologically one day where we can choose our characters undertone seperate from the relative darkness of their skin.
I'm almost positive we'll have darker skin tones in Inquisition, and they'll probably look much better this time due to frostbite...Although the option to have more variety and better hues and undertones would be great!

I gave up long ago on trying to feel "included". I'm half Danish and Thai. How many 6'5" half Viking/Asians can you make in a game? None. ![]()
It doesn't matter anyway. I roleplay. Not play myself.
