So if its possible to emerge unscathed from the suicide mission...is it possible to be the only one standing?

Title says it all really, bioware is putting out the vibe that the mission is dangerous you won't have a chance if "you are ill-prepared!" Then is it realistically possible for Shepard to be the last man standing? What do you think? If it is how messed up would that be? I suppose this really translates to, how many of these guys are gonna come with us to the final chapter and how many are gonna leave us for the new blooded squaddies.

So what do you think about this and the possible repercussions in the third and final game.

I've been trying to do that very thing. The most I can get it down to is three people left (not including Joker or Shepard). I wonder if you can just get everyone killed. Shepard dying, and the Normandy blowing up as well...?

Yes you can get everybody killed including shepard, that's one of the first things Bioware stated.  It's unadvisable because that makes your character file un-transferable to ME3.

Got down to 1 squadmate on my third playthrough, but technically i didn't have one teammember recruited yet, so i guess that counts as alive.

Saying anything else would be considered spoilers.

Wow, the main gun without the upgrade is weak, the sounds on it are even of the weak "pew pew" type.

I think this is the wrong forum for that kind of discussion "Mass Effect General Discussion (NO SPOILERS ALLOWED)", you should try in "Mass Effect 2 Official Campaign Quests and Storylines (Spoilers Warning)"!?

Well, I guess that's the closest we're getting to the End of the Universe, although Joker as a main character would be funny (for a few minutes at least..)
I'm guessing that also means you'll need at least one other survivor in order to continue the Trilogy, since Joker and EDI can't save you by themselves.

The minimum amount of surviving squad mates is 2

They should allow the "dead" save file transferrable, and when you transfer it to ME3 it shows a 10 minute cinematic called "Joker's Journey."

That would be boss.

Actually, no its not. Not to spoiler the ending, but you need at least 1 other possible squad character to survive for shepard to live. Or so I've been told.

Is there a change to get only Shepard killed? That would be suitable heroic end for one my characters, Dragon Age style :)

sadly, that is not possible. If one of your crew members survives, so does shepard. If they all die, so does shepard.

?huh?

In my playthrough, all of this dying stuff took place in cutscenes, without my input. And all my NPCs had successfully complete their Loyalty Mission.

I get the deaths on the Normandy: result of not upgrading the ship.

I am absolutely in the dark for all the others.

Confused,
SirV

The input depends on whether you picked the right character for the job when asked to give them to each particular assignment.

The only death I actually did find random is Mordin, who died on the hold the line part the first time around despite being loyal. When chose to send him back on reloading the mission though, I managed to save all of them.

Hmmm. Thanks for that.

Hard to tell which it is though - one dude I picked acknowledged he was suited to his task . . . and then died!

Also, how does that affect who Sheppard saves after the end boss?

Less confused,
SirV

Just so you know, some of the squad members may think they are suited to their task but in reality can't cut it.

Not possible from what I've seen. Most, but not all.

That, or a 10 minute cutscene showing the Reapears annihilating the universe.  Or Joker fighting the reapers and dying in an epic battle... Definitley something Bioware should look into. Agreed.
