I find Explosive Ammo to be very useful.... on Silver.... when I'm using the GPR, Locust, or any other gun that takes eleventy billion shots to kill a mook.  The stagger helps keep the enemies standing in place so I can keep my super soaker stream on them, instead of strafing/rolling after they start taking fire.

Or you could take advantage of either gun's above average headshot multipliers for quick kills and not use the troll ammo at all.

I sometimes use it on a sniper build or when slumming in lolSilver.  ;)

I've played hard for the massive quantity of explosive rounds I have, so I'm darn well going to use them  :o

I woulda done the test on gold with a 1 enemy on field max value instead pretty much for that reason.

I wish I had every really figured out the primer stack. There's no good design reason explosive ammo is blocking detonations, and the only explanation I can really think of is that they copied code from the tech ammo's to get the applied effect easily, and didn't consider that that would put it on the stack with no viable detonators.

Explosive Ammo isn't blocking detonations.

I don't know where the unit limit cap is since I haven't dicked around with MP wave compositions or anything, and I don't have to switch out coalesced or anything to just test on Bronze.

edit:

I basically waited for the Explosion to occur before attempting to detonate... I guess I can do some more crap where I fire the shot right before I try to detonate.

Much bigger problem in a team game than individually though, really the fact that EA is so crappy means that it is hardly relevant in the metagame to begin with, although I did find this question interesting though.

But it keeps reapplying and never detonating then.

Really?  I swear it was detonating when I was using it.  Maybe I was seeing things.

I thought it blocked them while the detonation timer is still going? If not, my bad.

IIRC, on rapid-fire weapons, you still get an explosion every three seconds. I've used it occasionally on silver on stuff like the Graal and Kishock, for that double stagger.

Edit: I may have misunderstood. I'm not sure now whether you were talking about the ammo detonating with rapid-fire application, or combos detonating on targets. Oh well.

Yeah my first tests didn't really address that.

I just did a new one where I shot them right before I could cast the detonator and I could still detonate BE's.

I guess I can take a look at tech as well.

Also, where do they keep the unit limits? ;)

edit2:  Doesn't look like "primed" but undetonated Explosive Ammo prevents Tech Bursts or Fire Explosions to me.

edit3: Uploaded test 2 so I can just delete it off harddisk

If you combine Explosive Rounds with, say, a sniper rifle set up with both penetration mods -- which should give 2.7m penetration -- and you're shooting through multiple targets because it's a husk-mod server and you're getting swarmed, will every husk penetrated be primed for an explosion?

I don't know what they were thinking when they designed these. The "explosion" barely tickles the enemy. I think firecrackers are more powerful.

They should've had them detonate tech bursts or something. Or cause the enemy to critically explode on death. That would be cool.

The real deal is that this ammo type is actually a scam that somehow made it into the official store. You'll always get some greedy bastards cashing in during times of stress and war.

Now you can go and blame EA or just roleplay pretending some Volus or space gang did some false advertising in times of need. Either way, they work as intended.

Isn't the point of explosion ammo to stagger multiple mooks together? So basically more of a beginners ammo. As more long term players will melt enemies with their Reeger, Carriers or what in an instant before they could even see the effect of an explosive ammo, lol.

Personally I still use them, of course. Since yeah, I don't always roll out with super OP setups & weapons, thus get to see them explode and do it's job (ie. fair enough/unbroken damage output + AOE stagger). Like I said, I still like to use & try everything over and over again.

And I still recall this video where this Drell Inf with Jave was testing Polonium alongside all other ammo rounds on the head of Geth Prime. Thesia was the stage. And, well, the damage output was comparable and even greater then some/most (might of came in second or third even?) of the other ammo types in getting the Prime down to zero health. So, what does this mean, should it be used mostly on single shot weapons? (I know using it on very high fire rate weapons it losses some damage due to it's damage cap) Plus how did that video make sense when everyone says it's damage output is way lower? I still never got an answer to this question? As this could solve this whole "Explosive it total crap" BS(N) whining.

Nothing is wrong with using them in Gold. It's where I use them (level 1 too, lol). They still do their job (stagger mooks & some extra dmg) for me.

Nothing wrong with it. It's there for the store to troll you with, and for players who like to save their more useful consumables for games with friends or whatever reason.

The first one: ammo detonating with rapid-fire application.  I could have sworn that when I was using it, if you kept a constant stream of fire (e.g., GPR) on the enemy, I was getting occasional explosions that would stagger the enemy.  I haven't used it in months though, so I may not be remembering correctly.

^ Pretty sure it does when it hits the max damage cap.  Not going to do a formal test of this one though.

I've actually found some decent uses for it. Kishock is one; it's a pain when your enemies recover enough to shoot you once in the back before the DoT kills them off. With explosive ammo it staggers them and/or kills them just before that happens.

Plus, if you're shooting a boss type enemy, the explosions will sometimes stagger mook-type enemies around their feet. Theoretically, if you can get it to hit at least two enemies, it should be up there equivalent with other ammo types.

Of course that's just in theory. In reality it's still garbage, but that doesn't make it less fun. One fun thing to do; prime with explosive ammo, blast them into the sky with a power, and watch the pretty fireworks.

It's tempting to take my CSR X or my recently acquired PPR II into a Bronze game and use Explosive Rounds just because of how bizarre that combination would be -- a beam that causes weak delayed explosions?  :D
