It just struck me the other day that a few things from the DAII dev dairies fit perfectly into what DA Inquisition is shaping up to be. The ''rise to power'' which to be honest never happened in DAII, not in the way it was hyped up to be anyway is what Inquisition is partially about (territory, allies etc etc.). In one of the dev diaries[1] Mike Laidlaw said 'What is a champion of Kirkwall? Is there a political significance? Do I command an army? Have I got some sort of superpower that no one has told me about?'' non of these apply to DAII at all (aside from the political bit) but here we are a few years later with the next game giving us both a special power, an army to command and political significance.
Another thing to back this theory up is what I think was the first dev diary [2] (not 100% certain), which demonstrated the animation the devs made to represent their idea for Dragon Age II. From that original animation the things that ended up in DAII were: Hawke, Darkspawn and Dragon (Flemeth) and some gameplay elements. The thing that didn't make it were the companions, here is a screenshot of them:

Now don't these look a bit familiar? I can't help but see Sera quite clearly in this picture. The Gray Warden is wearing a helmet so there is no way to tell if it's ''The'' Gray Warden companion we're getting. As for the Qunari, he doesn't look much like the Iron Bull. I can't help but think this isn't a coincidence and that these three were the early renditions of the Inquisition companions.
Another thing to mention is the fact that the elven companion refers to the player as ''sire'', which again never happened in DAII as we never rose to power, unlike the Inquisitor. And one of the dialogue options mentioning Orlais.
So I have a feeling that Dragon Age Inquisition is what the devs originally wanted DAII to be, the concept was there since the end of origins development. However due to the time constraints/technology/powersthatbe/lulz they decided to have a change of plans and keep some elements in while scrapping the rest. Maybe Hawke was supposed to be the Shpeard of DA universe, with DAII being an origin story. Perhaps they couldn't pull it off and changed direction during the development or post development due to negative feedback. Anyway folks, this is my first post on the new forums, have only done lurking since BSN was killed, pretty stoked for what's to come. ![]()
EDIT: Forgot to add the links to the diaries.
