you can have them turned off, they only show up when you are in a place where you would die without a helmet.

no, theres no head shots so it doesnt matter if your wearing a helmet or a paper bag over your head. DR remains the same regardless if hemet is on or off.

Err... don't get too used to it - the headshots'll kill you in ME2 with the new location damage physics model

yup helmets are cool but they do not protect ou if ou are shoot but maby in mass effect 2 the help in a firefight.
