Obviously this falls under the assumption that Petrice survived Act 2 of DA2, but I was wondering about whether or not she may make a return in DA:I?

However unlikely, I think she just might. If she did then there might be some pretty interesting consequences to her not having an arrow in her skull.

When we saw her last in Act 3, she reveals she is no longer a Mother of the Chantry, but she plans to gather support for a schism within said Chantry.

"We all have our strengths to exploit, mine is finding like-minded people. There are many disappointed with the Chantry. One day, we will be called to act. Schism, Serah Hawke, it is inevitable."

Despite being a poor conspirator as Fenris(?) once pointed out, if the events of Act 2 were any proof, then Petrice was certainly capable of rallying a mob of hardline fanatics to her banner. IIRC these "like-minded people" Petrice was so good at finding had a major hand (if not the hand) at forcing the Arishok and his Qunari to wage war against Kirkwall. Who knows what she could accomplish in the three years between DA2 and DA:I?

The schism she promised in Act 3 would most likely be a quiet little squeak compared to a war between mages and templars, a civil war in Orlais, and - oh yeah - an invasion of demons, but I'd like to think that a mob of crazy chant-freaks led by a madwoman would be something the Inquisition would want to deal with.

What do you think?

Didn't she get a crossbow bolt through her head courtesy of the Qunari?

There's definitely story possibilities, but her survival is probably too rare to get much attention devoted to it.

Maybe she'll end up allied with the break-away Templars?

No, she was pinned by a spear... I must say, the Qun has a good sense of Feng Shui.

Can't stand that woman. Whenever she's around it seemed like Hawke's IQ dropped by double digits.

Nope, two arrows.  One was in the chest and when she looked up at the Qunari, the next shot was right in between the eyes:

Most people who only play once don't. It's a exclusive outcome to angry!Hawke.

I don't think she can survive that.

I think there's an alternate quest line available if Hawke has an Aggressive personality which allows for a different path for Petrice, where the Qunari don't try to kill her.

A fanatic like Petrice could always do damage and find people to rally under her banner, but as most of the companions note, she's an absolutely terrible villain when it comes to being inconspicuous.

She's a lot like Cersei Lannister, in that she clearly believes herself to be far more clever than she actually is, when the truth of the matter is that she's no chessmaster and often lets her own ego blind her to obvious mistakes and allow her to make poor decisions.

A good chessmaster would have made sure that Hawke and comrades never made it back in Act 1, even if they beat the Qunari. And would have nipped that threat in the bud, rather than continue to let them live and act against her.

And her villainous breakdown in front of the Grand Cleric if you did call her out, was one of the most hilarious things ever. You'd think that composure would one of the first things you'd need as a master villain, not throwing a tantrum when you don't get things your way.

She could gain a following, but I bet that she'd quickly be either assassinated and supplanted by a far more devious, far better underling. Or left alive simply to be the fall guy to take the blame, when the authorities come a-knocking, while the real mastermind escapes.

She died and I was happy.  Although if you let her live she'd probably be working with Red Templars?

That might be a pretty good possibility. It might be a decent little twist in some quest or other, if the Inquisition had to deal with her followers and then find that they are being supported by Red Templars, or vice versa.

Such a minor character, who really has no reason to be outside Kirkwall in the first place, probably is not gonna show up in DA:I. Especailly not since she is dead in the vast majority of players' story.

Not so sure. The red templars most of all seem to be mage hunters. Petrice could be with them, but I would say only if she sees the mages as a challenge she has to face rather than something other unholy stuffz.

It was rather refreshing to have a fanatic chantry member mouth out against the Qunari rather than the mages, all other priests and templars seemed to be kinda "meh" towards them

Well sure, but I don't think the developers would have to strech her story far to make sense, she is a fanatic after all, so any cause that needs enlightment would probably do.

I don't see her returning.  However, she talked about constantly preaching to her flock about the "evil" Qunari and I'd just about guarantee that we didn't kill all the parishioners that believed in her cause.  I can see someone taking up her cause, using her as a battle cry against Quanri.

"Death to the enemies of the Maker! For Mother Patrice!"

But why bother? She is a minor insignificant character. Why bother with giving her screen time, when that time could be better spent given to an actually important character?

Imagine this while playing as a Qunari.

Frothing Mad Person: "BURN THE HERETIC!!!!!"

...and now suddenly I am reminded of the Imperium of Man...

I hear you, but I was happy to have the Qunari kill-steal from me. Seemed fitting.  My favorite part?  The Grand Cleric barely even reacts, almost like she knew Patrice had it coming to her.

Her return could fix that, maybe?
