So adding a PVP will destroy everything both on the forums and in the new ME? A bit hyperbolish IMO

I personally don't see anything wrong with a PvP element being added to the new ME. If they make it a SEPARATE OPTION for those interested and a PvP section on the forums then why not?

If you don't like it then don't play it or post in the PvP section.

Bioware devs are very capable of pulling this off if they wanted...

All I will say is that I've played a lot of PvPs and it tends to turn people into douchebags. Take this one guy in Gears 3. We're on the same team and both shooting the last guy on the other team. I clearly got most of the shots, since my assist points were pretty high, but he got the down. You get the chance to execute opponents in Gears, but I decide to just shoot him.

The next round, this guy follows me across the map meleeing me pointlessly (no friendly fire) and blocking my line of fire!

The point is, do you really want to attract that brand of douchebag to ME3, a game where a lot of people used as their first online MP experience and a game that convinced shy people to actually play online MPs?

It wouldn't bother me really as long as I didn't have to play it. PvP doesn't interest me but I'd have no problem if there was a separate part of the game for those who do like PvP.

One or even a few experiences with PvP douchbags doesn't define the PvP community as a whole. Competition doesn't always equal douchbaggerry. Competition can be a good thing.

Edit* I've seen a plethora of virtual friendships form as a result of good competition.

Hopefully they change the view to first person and also get rid of those annoying powers.

Exactly. If it's separate then whats the problem?

Which is true of course! But you have to admit, the douchebags outweigh the normal people in PvP...  <_<

Before ME3, my past experiences with MOST players online have generally been arguments and trolling back and forth. If this was brought to ME3 and this forum (because the PvP players will crossover to the Co-op section too), it'll probably scare off half the current fanbase...

It can work in third person just fine imo. Look at gears. It originally began with horde just like ME 3 then they added PvP. It's doing just fine still... I'm pretty sure they could pull it off if they wanted. They are "developers" after all...

I think it would probably turn into an "interesting" mix of Halo (console shooter somewhat focused on headshots) and Dark Souls (melee + annoying powers + stun based combat). That said, I probably wouldn't play it if Bioware netcode keeps on keeping on. They're going to have to prove they can do that properly in ME4 before they think of making PvP games.

Competition is good, yes. As long as there is mutual respect, I have no problem with competition. That being said, I compete enough as it is in real life and with sports, so I'm not looking to compete in Mass Effect 3. The draw to this game - for me - is the teamwork, communication, and the fact I can relax.

Look at Fallout New Vegas, you can switch 1st person to 3rd person, that'd be cool.

It takes away development time and resources from what should be the focus - co-op.

Scare off? What is there to fear? Besides, there's ninja stan, the modbots, and the other mods that will be very active as they are with any games "spice period" before moderation slows down a bit. I'm sure you remember the tyranny of ninja stan back wen ME 3 was hot.

Nah, I came after the balance changes. I just got to see the modbots in action...  :pinched:

But honestly, competitiveness will drive some people away. I've seen it myself. If someone plays PvP online, gets blown away and finishes last every match without killing anything, they tend to stop playing. Having a co-op and a PvP forum will just mean one forum insulting the other and it becomes a recipe for trolling. I can't say I've seen it in other forums (since this is the only one I visit), but I do know for a fact that in Gears for example, PvP players don't exactly have high opinions of horde players and vice versa...

Look at Battlefield 3 and 4 and then Battlelog, trolls R US.

I've all but given up on the games and I've spent over £80 on BF4 premium...I'd rather play a game I got 2 years ago...lol.

A recipe for failure is trying to be good at several different things instead of focusing on trying to be the best at one thing. You can't have PVP and have a decent coop multiplayer. There are simply better games for PVP than mass effect would ever be.

No Gears of War 1 only had PvP multi player.  (It may have had bots, I do not remember.)  Horde Mode was not introduced until Gears of War 2.

I agree PvP in third person can work fine if the game play is fine.  But I do not think in its current state, ME is balanced for PvP.  Powers are the real issue and I'm not sure I would want them removed.  Something like Left 4 Dead's PvP is a more suitable possibilty.

Still, I am not all that thrilled about PvP in ME.

I love competition myself, but even I'll admit that it brings out the worst in me... I used to take it so seriously, but nowadays, I've come to realise that they're just games and there's no point in getting worked up about them. That's why I like Mass Effect. It's a much friendlier environment.

Bioware arlready excels in voice acting and script/story writing [with the exception of ME 3's ending.] They are among the best at what they do. Trying something different could be a way of discovering what could possibly improve the MP experience aside from just bug fixing
