Looking at the confirmed companions and support characters, the majority of them are chantry affiliated (of the ones that we know more than a name anyway) that being the case, and the fanatic Cassandra being a core companion by the looks, how much could we really oppose the chantry, that blind source of evil in Thedas?
Will we be able to oppose the chantry?

Without spoiling too much, let just say that you will pretty much oppose the Chantry right from the start and that Cassandra is the enabler of said opposition.

I wouldn't call Cass a fanatic. I am pretty sure this exposition is going to change allot in regards to characters like Cassandra.

Well, it depends on your definition of "oppose the Chantry". I can pretty much guarantee you're not going to be able to kill all Andrastians.

They said that there would be trouble spots where we would have to go and decide to help Templars vs Mages, and Chantry vs non chantry people I think.

The only thing Bioware's guaranteed is that we won't have to support the Chantry. I would imagine that we get to step on quite a few toes, though I doubt we'll be able to completely destroy it like many people on BSN seem to want.

I simply want to treat it like it treats others, after all turn about is fair play.

You'll be able to side with whatever faction you want to, you can be pro or anti whatever though how you play with have consequences with different factions and your companions.

My self and my 2nd in command Sister Petrice will be leading the Chantry to bigger and better things. As soon as we get rid of the heretical horned devils and all the mages.

What companions are you talking about? Of the ones we know only Cassandra is pro-chantry. Varric is neutral on the issue and Viv is pro mage. Of the other three confirmed companions none appear to even be Andrastian at all. I'd be more concerned about an oversaturation of pro-mage party members.
Vivienne is pro-Circle.

I think you're missing my point, you can be pro whatever you want and anti whatever you want, say you're extremely pro chantry and pro chantry and anti mage, and go out of your way to oppress mage. Vivienne and your other mages will not like this, they may even come to hate you and leave or do other things.
The way we play, who we support will effect many thing's, they will react to your choices like what happened with Crestwood in the demo, Varic didn't like that and made his displeasure known which will eventually come up again. Other factions will most likely react to what you do, if you continually side with one faction you will likely be locked out from helping another.
They've been stressing that our actions have consequences in a number of ways.

I don't think we'll be able to really oppose the Chantry, because I believe that's not what the Inquisition is about.
The Inquisition has its priorities and one of them is to save the world. Maybe cut some corners along the way and possibly anger organizations such as the Chantry. but we're not here to overthrow them or anything.

While being full anti-chantry is nice. I hope there can be a middle ground to find for Mages and Chantry.
Yeah me too. The one thing I really hated about DA2 is that you were forced to choose between the two sides, there was no middle-ground.,.
As to the OP.. most definitely. They stated numerous times that the Inquisition is it's own thing and is not in anyway affiliated with or supported by the Chantry. Heck.. it's not even affiliated with the Andrastian religion by default. That's all up to you. Whether or not you'll support them or not, or even if you believe in their version of the world.

Opposing the chantry is saving the world. As long as one sister survives they are going to try and destroy non-humans, eradicate dissent, imprison mages, crush other faiths and launch march after march against any who resist. The only solution is the eradication of the Andrastarian taint, using punishments so terrible no one will dare follow that sick creed again.

the 'generals' or w/e they are called are 2 pro chantry,1 unknown, so considering they are supposed to be doing the leg work that you don't have time to, running agents etc, they will not oppose the chantry.
