I think one has to understand that the availability is limited, and that some people who want it, won't be able to get it. It's even implied in the name: "
Collectors Edition". Also, it might do well to consider that we do not really know how desirable DA:I will really be, as a game, when it's released. It would be pretty embarrassing to stand kneedeep in unsellable (and expensive to produce) "
Collectors Ediditions" if the game then tanks horribly.
The unfortunate element in this situation is that it seems the CE has been made available only to select cathegory of customers from the start.
That is sad. I can understand if a sales channel is given exclusive rights, if they themselves are producing the CE. The way this deal is put together, that does not appear obvious.
First, please be aware that the term "Collector's Edition" for this kind of games does not refer to the extremely limited availability. It refers to the fact that there are collectible items in this edition, that will retain their collector's value long after people have stopped playing the game itself.
Second, pre-orders are a very good way to measure how desirable a game is. Based on the amount of pre-orders, they can then order more of a product to be produced before release date (they still have plenty of time for that). Limiting (in advance) pre-orders to only 2 or 3 per store, in places where they have a Gamestop, and none in places where they have no Gamestop - and giving most of Europe no PC versions - is a very bad start.
If there is some part of the CE (maybe the chest?) that can not be produced in large enough quantities before release date, they they should have chosen a different CE altogether (one that they CAN supply in large enough quantities to all people).
But given that that decision has already been made and there's no turning back now - in this case, I would be okay with it if I could order the CE, then get the digital codes on release date, and the actual CE box some time after that (I could live with getting the box contents a month later, if that's the time it takes them to produce enough extra copies).
But right now, we can't even ORDER the CE for PC (even if I were in an EU country that has a Gamestop, I still couldn't order one, as Gamestop here doesn't sell them).
